Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn in various colors (Mustard, Deep Yellow, Light Yellow, Orange, White, Black)
  • 4.5 mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker

Abbreviations

  • ch(s) - Chain(s)

  • dc - Double Crochet

Making Process

Section 1: The Crown

  1. Begin with a magic ring using color A and work in hdc to create the crown's diameter corresponding to the size needed.
  2. After reaching the suggested diameter for the hat size, proceed to the feather section.

Section 2: Turkey Feathers

  1. Using color B (and changing to colors C and D in subsequent rows), crochet the feathers in rows directly onto the crown, working in the BLO for the first row and creating shell stitches.
  2. Once the feathers are completed, finish off the edges with a sc edge in color A.

For Section 3: Body of the Hat

  1. For the beanie, crochet around excluding the feather section, working in hdc and xdc stitches, and add a brim with FPdc/BPdc for a snug fit.
  2. For the bonnet, work back and forth, leaving out the last couple of stitches, and finish with a brim and a tie using chains and sc.

Section 4: Facial Details

  1. Create the eyes, beak, and wattle with smaller pieces in contrasting yarn colors.
  2. Sew these pieces onto the hat to give your turkey character and charm.

The result is a festive and fun turkey hat that will undoubtedly be the highlight of your Thanksgiving celebrations!
