April 24, 2024 by Adnan

Make a cozy, airy Blank Canvas Baby Blanket with a simple but beautiful wide V-stitch crochet pattern. This pattern is perfect for beginners seeking simplicity with a touch of elegance. Materials:

  • Yarn: Himalaya Everyday (100% acrylic anti-pilling) in white, blue, and beige
  • Crochet hook: 3 mm
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • inc: increase
  • bp sc: back post stitch using single crochet
  • st(s): stitch(es)

Making Process:

Starting the Blanket:

  1. Make a foundation chain of 105 (a multiple of 2 + 1).
  2. Begin Row 1 with 1 ch, and then work 1 sc into each st across, totaling 105 sts.
  3. For Row 2, start with 2 chs. Make a pattern of "skip 1, work (1 hdc, 1 ch, 1 hdc) into the next stitch". Repeat 52 times and end with an extra hdc (105 sts not counting the ch spacings).

Continuing the Blanket:

  • 4. From Row 3 onwards, repeat the pattern from Row 2, working (1 hdc, 1 ch, 1 hdc) into each ch space from the previous row.
  • Continue creating rows to the desired length, ideally repeating Row 3, 122 times.

Adding the Border:

  1. Attach the yarn of your blanket color to the first stitch on the short edge (not in a corner), and work 1 hdc into each stitch around the blanket, placing 3 hdc in each corner stitch for a slight curve.
  2. Move onto using your border color, and work 1 back post sc in each stitch around the blanket.
  3. For subsequent rows, alternate between using back post single crochet, working through the back loop only and traditional single crochet stitches, continuing to add 2 sc in each corner to maintain the blanket's shape.
  4. Fasten off neatly and secure the yarn to finish.

Remember to weave in all ends, and give your blanket a final blocking for the perfect shape and size. Enjoy crafting this baby blanket with its timeless design and snuggly comfort that's sure to be cherished.
