Crochet Ankle Socks For Holiday Season

As the holiday season approaches, crochet ankle socks emerges as a heartwarming and fulfilling project. These handcrafted ankle socks not only offer comfort and warmth during the festive chill but also serve as thoughtful, personalized gifts for loved ones. Simple enough for beginners yet engaging for those with more experience, crocheting these socks can become a cherished holiday tradition.

Crochet Ankle Socks

Materials:

  • Yarn (the amount will depend on the size you want to make)
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • st: stitch
  • sk: skip

Pattern:

Foundation Chain:

  • ch 10

Row 1:

dc in the 3rd ch from the hook, dc in the next 6 ch spaces, dc 4 in the last ch space, dc in the next 6 ch spaces, dc 2 in the last ch space. You should have a total of 20 sts.

Row 2:

  • ch 2, dc in the same space, increase (dc 2 in the same st), dc in the next 7 sts, increase 3 times, dc in the next 7 sts, increase in the last st, sl st to the top of the ch 2.

Rows 3-15:

  • Repeat Row 2 for a total of 13 rows.

Row 16:

  • ch 1, turn your work, dc in the first st, dc in the next 13 sts.

Rows 17-22:

  • Repeat Row 16 for a total of 6 rows.

Row 23:

Fold your work so the inside is on the outside. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail. Single crochet the first 7 sts together, ch 1, single crochet in the next 7 sts.

Row 24:

  • ch 1, hdc in the first st, hdc 2 in the next st, hdc in the next 9 sts, hdc 2 in the next st, hdc in the next 9 sts.

For Row 25:

  • Insert your hook in the last hdc, pull through, skip the connecting st, go into the bottom of the next hdc, pull through, pull through all 3 loops, hdc 10, insert your hook in the last hdc, pull through, skip the connecting st, go into the bottom of the next hdc, pull through, pull through all 3 loops, hdc 11.

Row 26:

  • sl st to the top of the hdc, ch 1, hdc 10, hdc 2 together (insert your hook in the first hdc, yarn over, pull through, insert your hook in the next hdc, yarn over, pull through all 4 loops), hdc 8, hdc 2 together, hdc 10.

Row 27 (optional):

  • If you want your socks to be ankle length, sl st to the top of the hdc, ch 1, hdc 2 in the first st, hdc in the next 23 sts.

For Row 28 (optional):

Repeat Row 27.

Row 29 (if you're adding ruffles):

  • ch 2, turn your work, hdc 2 in the back loop of the first st, hdc 3 in the back loop of the next 13 sts.

For Row 30 (if you're adding ruffles):

  • sl st to the top of the dc, ch 2, dc in the same space, dc in the next 14 sts.

Row 31 (if you're adding ruffles):

  • Repeat Row 30.

Finishing:

Fasten off:

Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches. Weave the tail through the last stitch and pull it tight. Cut the yarn again, leaving a short tail.

Weave in ends:

  • Using a yarn needle, weave in all the loose ends. You can either weave them through the back loops of the stitches or through the spaces between the stitches.

Steam block (optional):

  • If you want your socks to be more even and shaped, you can steam block them. To do this, dampen your socks and lay them flat on a clean surface. Use a steamer to gently steam the socks until they are dry. Allow the socks to cool completely before wearing them.
