Crochet Swim Cover-up Dress
Materials Needed:
- Any yarn of choice
- A crochet hook (a size bigger than the one recommended by the yarn for a looser fit)
Pattern Overview:
- Begin with a slip knot, create a foundation of double crochet stitches that is twice the length you want your dress to be. The number of stitches should be a multiple of three plus one additional stitch.
- For the triple crochet decrease pattern, chain four (this counts as the first triple crochet), then chain one more for a space, and proceed with a triple crochet.
Decrease as follows:
- Yarn over twice, insert the hook into the first double crochet, pull yarn through two loops, pull yarn through two more loops, but do not complete the stitch.
- Yarn over twice again, skip two spaces, start a new triple crochet, then finish both stitches by pulling through all three loops on the hook.
- Continue this pattern to the end of the row.
For the last triple crochet decrease of the row:
- Chain one, and make one triple crochet in the last stitch.
- Turn your work and proceed to row three.
Continue the pattern for row three:
- Chain four (counts as a triple crochet), then triple crochet in the top of the triple crochet decrease from the previous row, chain two.
- Continue with the triple crochet decrease pattern to the end of the row.
For row six:
- Chain three to start (this counts as a double crochet), then create two double crochets in the chain two space and one double crochet at the top of the triple crochet decrease from the previous row, all the way across.
Repeat steps two and three twice:
- After doing so, work two rows of double crochets.
- Keep repeating this pattern until the piece has reached your desired size.
- Finish with one row of double crochet and create a second, identical panel.
Assembling the Dress:
- Drape each panel over the shoulders and pin or mark with stitch markers where you'd like the seams for armholes. Decide on the neckline design and depth.
- Face the right sides of the panels together and stitch the sides:
- Start at the bottom if not creating a slit, or higher for a slit.
- Use a single crochet stitch to join the panels, lining up the ends neatly and continuing up to the armhole marker.
- After seaming, if a deeper neckline is desired in the front or back, seam accordingly up to that point.
To prevent the dress from slipping off the shoulders, add a supporting chain:
- Measure the required chain length to span the shoulders or fit as desired.
- Fasten the chain by inserting the yarn on one side, chaining across, and attaching it to the other side.
- The dress is now complete. Try it on for fit and make any final adjustments.
