This pattern combines a structured mesh bodice with a dramatic pleated skirt that naturally flares as you work downward, making it ideal for warm weather and layered styling.

The adjustable construction allows you to customize the bust fit, skirt length, and strap placement, so the dress can be adapted for casual beachwear or dressed up for special occasions. With its repeating stitch pattern and gradual shaping, this design balances visual impact with a relaxed, rhythmic crochet process.
Materials
- Medium weight size 4 acrylic yarn
- 3.5 mm crochet hook
- Tape measure
- Scissors
- Stitch markers
- Darning needle
Bodice
- Start with a slip knot and chain long enough to wrap across the bust, leaving extra length for the back opening
- Small size uses approximately 20 inches
- Medium size uses approximately 24 inches
- Large size uses approximately 28 inches
- Double crochet into the fourth chain from the hook
- Chain 1, skip 1 chain, double crochet into the next chain
- Repeat this mesh pattern across the entire row
- Chain 3 and turn at the end of each row
- Double crochet into the top of the previous double crochet
- Chain 1 and continue the mesh pattern across
- Repeat rows until the bodice measures about 7 inches in height or fits comfortably

Joining and Skirt Foundation
- Fold the bodice and join the ends by chaining 8 stitches and slip stitching to the opposite side to form a round
- Chain 3 and continue the mesh pattern evenly around the entire round
- Work into the chain bridge as regular stitches
- For the expansion round, chain 3 and double crochet into the top of the next stitch
- Use chain 3 spaces instead of chain 1 to increase volume for the skirt

Pleat Pattern
- In one space, work 4 double crochets separated by chain 3 between each stitch
- Chain 3 and place one double crochet into each of the next three spaces
- Repeat the 4 double crochet cluster in the fourth space
- Continue this pattern around the skirt
- In the next round, work V stitches by placing double crochet, chain 3, double crochet into the center of each pleat cluster

- This increases the width and enhances the pleated effect
- After expansion rounds, continue working a standard mesh pattern with double crochet and chain 3 until the desired dress length is reached
Straps and Finishing

- Create a long chain approximately 48 inches for the back tie
- Lace it through the back bodice in a criss cross corset style, skipping one row between passes
- Attach yarn at the front bodice for straps
- Work a narrow mesh strap using double crochet and chain 1 until the strap reaches the desired length
- Slip stitch the strap securely to the back of the dress

- Optionally add beads or decorative elements along the mesh lines for extra detail
