This crochet Mermaid Shell Top pattern creates a sculpted, textured cup inspired by seashells and ocean elements. Designed with relief stitches and layered shell shaping, this top offers both structure and visual impact, making it ideal for beachwear, festival outfits, or statement summer looks.
Crochet Shell Top

The pattern focuses on gradual increases that naturally contour the bust, while the raised stitches add definition and guide optional embellishments like pearls. With easy size adjustments and customizable strap length, this crochet top works beautifully as a standalone piece or as part of a layered outfit.

Base and Start
- Make a magic ring and chain 3 to count as the first double crochet
- Work 10 double crochets into the ring for a total of 11 stitches
- Close the ring and fasten off the yarn at the back

Increase Row
- Chain 3 to start the next row
- In the next stitch work a V stitch made of 1 double crochet, 1 chain, and 1 double crochet in the same stitch
- Alternate 1 double crochet alone and 1 V stitch across the row
Shell Body and Relief Texture
- Chain 3 to begin the row

- Inside each V stitch work a shell made of 2 double crochets, 1 chain, and 2 double crochets
- On the single double crochets from the previous row work front post double crochets to form the shell ridges
Rows Four and Five
- Skip the initial stitches and begin working in the stitch before the shell
- Follow the pattern of 1 side double crochet, shell, and 1 side double crochet
- Maintain the relief stitches between shell sections
Six to Nine
- Increase the central shell by working 3 double crochets, 1 chain, and 3 double crochets in each shell space
- Continue keeping relief stitches aligned

Ten to Thirteen
- Work 2 double crochets before the shell
- Keep 3 double crochets inside the shell
- This results in 5 double crochets on each side of the shell center chain
Size Adjustments
- Size P uses fewer increase rows with fewer repetitions in the shell expansion
- Size G adds extra rows in the final increase section using the same stitch logic
Top Straps
- Count four shell rows from the side to position the strap centrally
- Work over one shell using 3 chains, a shell of 2 double crochets, 1 chain, and 2 double crochets, then finish with 1 double crochet
- Suggested strap length is 30 rows for size P, 35 rows for size M, and 40 rows for size G

Important Notes
- This pattern covers the first part of the project focusing on the cups and straps
- Back shaping, lower ruffle, side connections, and pearl application are completed in part two
- Relief stitches act as a visual guide for adding pearls and defining the shell texture
