Crochet Baby Hoodie & Poncho
Materials Needed:
- DK (Double Knitting) yarn (100g, 330m), pink or color of choice, CE011 Color Code
- 4mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle (for weaving in ends)
Sizes:
- 0 to 6 Months
- 6 to 12 Months
- 1 to 2 Years
- 2 to 3 Years
Pattern Overview:
- The pattern starts with making the body of the hoodie, working in double crochet stitches. Each size alteration begins the same way, with the adjustments made in the initial chain length to accommodate different sizes.
Starting Chain (For Different Sizes):
0 to 6 Months:
- Start with 30 double crochets (DC).
6 to 12 Months:
- Start with 32 double crochets (DC).
1 to 2 Years:
- Start with 34 double crochets (DC).
2 to 3 Years:
- Start with 36 double crochets (DC).
Double Crochet Foundation:
- You can start with either a traditional foundation chain plus one DC in each chain across or use the chainless DC start for a more seamless edge.
Row 1:
- Begin with a slip knot.
- Chain 3 (counts as the first DC).
- Work the specified number of DC into the foundation chain or start with the chainless foundation DC to reach the required stitch count.
- For 6 to 12 Months as an example, you'll have 32 DC.
- Turn your work at the end of each row.
Increasing Rows:
- In the last DC of the first row, work an additional 2 DC (total of 3 DC in the last stitch) to create the first corner.
- Continue with one DC in each stitch across for the back side of the hoodie. Double the stitch count specified for the front side for the back side.
Subsequent Rows:
Row 2 onwards:
- Continue working in DC, following the increases specified for the corners in the video.
- Keep checking the measurements against the baby size you are working on.
Hoodie Edging and Frill:
- When reaching the desired length for the torso, begin working on the hoodie's edges and frill.
- The frill is worked by creating a "V-Stitch" pattern around the edge of the hoodie.
V-Stitch Pattern:
- Chain 3 (counts as a DC), then work DC, Chain 1, and 2 more DC into the same space (this forms a V-Stitch).
- Skip a specific number of stitches (as directed in the pattern for each round), then work the V-Stitch in the next applicable stitch/space.
- Repeat this around the edges of the hoodie.
Hood Construction:
- Work in rows to create a rectangular shape that will form the hood.
- Stitch the top edge of the rectangular piece together to create the hood.
Finishing Touches:
- Sew the hood to the neckline of the body piece.
- Add any desired edgings, ties, or additional decorative elements like pom-poms.
Notes:
- This pattern adapts to different sizes primarily by changing the starting chain number and adjusting the total number of rows according to the size.
