Materials Needed:

  • Fine yarn (suggested: Drops Safran)
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • Stitch markers

Pattern Overview:

Starting Chain:

  • Begin with a slip knot. Chain a length that goes from one side of your body to the other (widest part of your chest), ensuring the total chain count is a multiple of 2, plus 1 extra (e.g., 7, 9, 11...).

First Row:

  • Place a stitch marker in the last chain. Double crochet into the seventh chain from your hook (counting back from the marker, which makes it the third chain from the stitch marker). Chain one, skip one chain, and double crochet into the next chain. Repeat the pattern (chain 1, skip 1, double crochet) to the end of the row.

Second Row:

  • Chain four, turn your work, double crochet into the next double crochet stitch from the previous row. Again, chain one, skip one stitch, and double crochet into the next. Repeat this pattern for the entire row. End with a double crochet in the last stitch.

Continue the Mesh Pattern:

  • Keep repeating the steps for creating the mesh pattern until the piece is long enough to cover from where you want the top to start to about 15 centimeters before your armpits.

Creating the Slanted Edge:

  • Start decreasing by chaining three (or two for a tighter edge) at the beginning of each row and turning your work. Double crochet into the next double crochet, then continue with chaining one and double crocheting across until two mesh squares from the end of the row. Decrease here to shape the slanted edge by skipping the second-to-last double crochet. Repeat this on each row until the top is long enough for you.

Trimming and Straps:

  • Attach yarn at the beginning of the slanted edge.
  • Single crochet all around the top, working one single crochet into each gap and mesh line.

Place two single crochets into each corner.

To create strap gaps, at key points (top middle, bottom middle), chain two and half-double crochet, skipping one stitch in between for the gaps.

  • For straps, chain about 1.5 meters, then work back down the chain with single crochets (or the stitch of your preference) for thicker or thinner straps, and attach them to the provided gaps.

Finishing:

  • Single crochet along the last edge to complete the round and slip stitch to join. Single crochet along the sides and bottom edge once more for a clean finish. Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Final Touches:

  • Adjust strap length and positioning based on personal preference and fit.
  • Customize the length of the top by adding or subtracting rows from the mesh body.
