Crochet Christmas Stocking
Materials Needed:
- At least two different colors of yarn (though more can be used if desired)
- Crochet hook (5 mm is suggested, adjust according to yarn)
- Stitch marker
- Sewing needle
- Scissors
Yarn Information:
- The example uses C Organica for one, KM Risa for another.
- And W Yarn for the third.
- You can use any yarn of your choice.
Making the Stocking:
Toe Part:
- Start with the color for the toe. Create a slip knot on your hook.
- Chain 4, then slip stitch in the first chain to form a loop.
Row 1:
- Chain 3 (counts as the first treble), then work 9 more trebles into the loop (total of 10 stitches including the chain).
Row 2:
- Slip stitch to join the round. Chain 3, then work 2 trebles in each stitch around (total of 20 stitches).
In Row 3:
- Chain 3, work 1 treble in the next stitch, then 2 trebles in the following stitch. Repeat from * around (total of 30 stitches).
Row 4:
- Chain 3, work a treble in each of the next two stitches, then 2 trebles in the following stitch. Repeat from * around. This is your last increase row.
Body of the Stocking:
Row 5:
Chain 3, then work 1 treble in each stitch around without increasing. Finish the row, change colors as you like.
From Row 6 to Row 12:
- create a pattern of your choosing with the colors by repeating the steps for creating columns (one double crochet, followed by trebles as per the desired design).
- During these rows, you'll work in sets of three trebles to create vertical columns across the stocking and change colors after certain intervals to create stripes.
In Heel Section:
- 10. Select a point on the stocking as your start point for the heel.
Heel Row 1:
- With the heel color, work 17 treble stitches across a section of the circle (this will form a semi-circle for the heel).
Heel Row 2 and 3:
- Chain 3 (counts as a treble), then work 1 treble in each of the next stitches, including in the top of the chain. You will maintain 18 stitches in these rows.
Leg Section:
- 13. Resume working in rounds for the leg section, basically repeating the process of earlier rows but without increases, creating a tube.
- Continue alternating colors as before to match the pattern until the leg section is as long as desired.
Cuff:
- 15. To create the cuff, attach yarn at the top of the stocking using a slip stitch.
Cuff Row 1:
- Chain 21, then work a treble crochet in the 4th chain from the hook and each chain across.
For Cuff Row 2 and Beyond:
- Turn your work, chain 3 (counts as the first treble), then work in treble crochet stitches into the back loops only of each stitch across. Attach this to the stocking at intervals to secure.
- Repeat these rows until the cuff covers the desired length around the top of the stocking, then slip stitch the cuff's ends together to join.
Hanging Loop:
- 19. Chain a length sufficient for hanging the stocking, slip stitch to form a loop, and attach securely to the top corner of the stocking.
