Materials:

  • Sheep's Katona and Bridal white, light coral, and silver green yarn
  • 2.75 mm crochet hook
  • Darning/tapestry needle
  • Sharp scissors
  • Stitch markers
  • DMC six strand embroidery floss in colors 3799 and 352
  • Embroidery needle
  • White felt
  • Gorilla fabric glue
  • Sheet of paper towel
  • Toothpick
  • Sharp scissors
  • Bowl of cool water (if blocking)
  • Pins
  • Clean washcloth or towel
  • Blocking board (if blocking)

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: increase (work 2 sc in the same stitch)
  • sl st: slip stitch

Body:

Magic circle with white yarn

Work 6 sc into the magic circle.

Round 2:

  • Increase into each stitch (total 12 stitches).

Round 3:

  • Alternate between 1 sc and 1 inc (total 18 stitches).

For Round 4:

  • Skip the first 2 stitches, then 1 sc, 1 inc 5 times, then 1 sc, sl st in the final stitch (total 24 stitches).

Round 5:

  • Skip the first 2 stitches, then 2 sc, 1 inc 4 times, then 1 sc, sl st in the final stitch (total 30 stitches).

Round 6:

  • Skip the first 2 stitches, then 3 sc, 1 inc 3 times, then 1 sc, sl st in the final stitch (total 36 stitches).

For Round 7:

  • Skip the first 2 stitches, then 4 sc, 1 inc 2 times, then 1 sc, sl st in the final stitch (total 42 stitches).

Round 8:

  • Skip the first 2 stitches, then 5 sc, 1 inc, 5 sc, sl st in the final stitch (total 48 stitches).

Round 9-12:

  • Repeat round 8.

Head:

  • Work 6 sc into the magic circle.

Round 2:

  • Increase into each stitch (total 12 stitches).

For Round 7:

  • Skip the first 2 stitches, then 4 sc, 1 inc 2 times, then 1 sc, sl st in the final stitch (total 42 stitches).

Round 8:

  • Skip the first 2 stitches, then 5 sc, 1 inc, 5 sc, sl st in the final stitch (total 48 stitches).

Round 9-12:

Repeat round 8.

Scarf:

  • With the scarf color, sl st in the final stitch of the body.
  • 1 sc in the next stitch on both the head and the body 6 times.
  • Sl st in the marked stitch on the head.
  • Ch 3, cut the working end of the yarn, and fasten off.
  • Sew the yarn tail of the scarf into the body and weave it into the back.

Hat:

  • With the hat color, sl st in the marked stitch on the head.
  • Work 4 sc in the back loops only.
  • Turn and single crochet the next 2 stitches together.
  • Single crochet the remaining 2 stitches together.
  • Cut the yarn and fasten off.
  • Weave both tails into the back of the applique.

Embroidery:

  • Embroider the eyes with two strands of dark gray embroidery floss.
  • Embroider the mouth with two strands of dark gray embroidery floss.
  • Embroider the blush with two short lines of pink embroidery floss on either side of the face.

Finishing:

  • Attach a loop to the top of the snowman if desired.
  • Apply fabric glue to the back of the snowman and press it down onto the felt.
  • Allow the glue to dry completely before cutting out the snowman.
