This chunky ribbed crochet sweater pattern is designed to create a warm, modern wardrobe staple. Worked in flat panels with simple half double crochet stitches, it forms a beautifully textured and cozy finish.

Crochet Sweater

Crochet Friendly Chunky Sweater Free Easy Pattern

The design features long sleeves, a soft turtleneck, and a relaxed fit that can be easily customized to your preferred length or width. Whether cropped or full-length, this sweater is perfect for layering, making it a versatile handmade piece you’ll love wearing all season.

Materials

  • Chunky yarn
  • 10 mm hook
  • Scissors
  • Needle

Stitches

  • HDC front loop
  • SC
  • SS

Front and Back Panels (Make Two)

  • Create a slip knot and chain your desired sweater length.
  • Chain 2, work HDC in third chain from hook and across.
  • Chain 2, turn, work HDC in front loop of each stitch.

  • Continue until the shoulder width is reached.
  • Shape the neckline by alternating decrease rows and straight rows.
  • After the decrease section, work straight rows.
  • Work increase rows, alternating with straight rows.
  • Continue working straight rows to match the first shoulder.
  • Fasten off and repeat to make the back panel.

Join Panels

  • Place front and back panels together.

  • Join shoulder edges using slip stitch or sewing.
  • Join side edges with single crochet, leaving armholes.

Sleeves (Make Two)

  • Create a slip knot and chain your desired sleeve length.
  • Chain 2, turn, work HDC in front loop until 7 stitches remain, then work SC in front loop.
  • Chain 1, turn, work SC in front loop over 7 stitches, then HDC to the end.
  • Repeat this sequence until sleeve is wide enough.
  • Sew sleeve closed.

  • Attach sleeves to armholes.

Turtleneck

  • Join yarn to neckline.
  • Work HDC decreases evenly around and slip stitch to join.
  • Chain desired turtleneck height.
  • Row 1: Chain 1 and SC in back loop to top.
  • Join to neckline with SC.
  • Row 2: Turn and SC in front loop to top.
  • Continue repeating rows and joining to neckline until complete.
  • Join the two short ends together and fasten off.

Finishing

  • Work HDC decreases around bottom edge if desired.
  • Weave in all yarn ends.
