  • Size E/5.5 mm crochet hook
  • Caron Jumbo #4 Medium Weight Yarn (Color: Country Basket)

Hat Pattern

Crochet Textured Hat 1

Beginning: Magic Ring

  • Wrap yarn around your finger twice to create a magic ring.
  • Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
  • Work 11 double crochets into the ring (total 12 including chain 3).
  • Pull the center loop to tighten the ring.
  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain 3.

Round 2: Increase

  • Chain 3.
  • Turn your work.
  • Make 1 front post double crochet (FPdc) around the same stitch as the joining.

Next stitch: Make 1 double crochet (dc) on top and 1 FPdc around the same stitch.

  • Repeat this pattern all the way around: 1 dc on top of the next stitch and 1 FPdc around the same stitch.

Total: 24 stitches (12 dc and 12 FPdc).

  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.

Round 3: Increase

  • Chain 3.
  • Turn your work.
  • Make 1 FPdc around the same stitch as the joining.
  • Make 1 FPdc around the next stitch.

Next stitch: Work 1 dc on top and 1 FPdc around the same stitch.

  • Make 1 FPdc around the next stitch.
  • Repeat this sequence all the way around: dc + FPdc on one stitch, FPdc on next.

Total: 36 stitches.

  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.

Round 4: Increase

  • Chain 3.
  • Turn your work.
  • Make 1 FPdc around the same stitch as the joining.
  • Make 1 FPdc around each of the next 2 stitches.

Next stitch: Work 1 dc on top and 1 FPdc around the same stitch.

  • Make 1 FPdc around each of the next 2 stitches.
  • Repeat pattern all the way around.

Total: 48 stitches.

  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.

Round 5: Increase

  • Chain 3.
  • Turn your work.
  • Make 1 FPdc around the same stitch as the joining.
  • Make 1 FPdc around each of the next 3 stitches.

Next stitch: Work 1 dc on top and 1 FPdc around the same stitch.

  • Make 1 FPdc around each of the next 3 stitches.

Round 6: Increase

  • Chain 3.

Crochet Textured Hat 2

Total: 72 stitches.

  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.

Round 7: Body of Hat (No Increasing)

  • Turn your work.
  • Make 1 front post single crochet (FPsc) around the same stitch as joining.
  • Chain 2 (counts as first FPdc).
  • Make 1 FPdc around each stitch around.

Total: 72 stitches.

  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2.

Remaining Body Rounds

  • Repeat Round 7 until the hat measures 7 inches from the start.

For each round:

  • Turn your work.
  • Start with 1 FPsc around the same stitch as the join.
  • Chain 2.
  • Continue with 1 FPdc around each stitch.
  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2.

Brim Pattern

Brim Round 1: Single Crochet

  • Ensure the wrong side of the hat is facing (you’ll see the starting tail).

Brim Round 2: Half Double Crochet

  • Chain 2.

Total: 72 hdc.

  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2.

Brim Round 3: Front/Back Post Half Double Crochet

  • Chain 2 (counts as first hdc).
  • Next stitch: Make 1 front post half double crochet (FPhdc).
  • Next stitch: Make 1 back post half double crochet (BPhdc).
  • Alternate between FPhdc and BPhdc around.
  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2.

Crochet Textured Hat 4

Remaining Brim Rounds

  • Chain 2 at the start of each round.

Continue the post stitch pattern:

  • FPhdc around FPhdc
  • BPhdc around BPhdc

Repeat for two more rounds.

  • Join with a slip stitch at the end.
  • Cut yarn and weave in the ends.
