  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Crocheted flowers (premade or self-made)
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle

Bag Base

Sole (Make 2)

  • Chain 17

Round 1:

  • Make 3 double crochets (dc) in the 2nd chain from hook
  • Dc in next 14 chains
  • Make 6 dc in the last chain
  • Continue on the other side of the chain: dc 14
  • Make 3 dc in the last stitch
  • Join to first stitch (40 stitches total)

Round 2:

  • Chain 2, dc in same stitch
  • 2 dc in each of next 2 stitches
  • Dc in next 14 stitches
  • 2 dc in each of next 6 stitches
  • Dc in next 14 stitches
  • 2 dc in each of last 3 stitches
  • Join (52 stitches total)

Join Soles Together

  • Place both sole pieces together
  • Slip stitch around the edges to join
  • Cut yarn and weave in ends

Bag Body

Round 3

  • Make single crochets (sc) all around
  • Join with slip stitch

Rounds 4–6

  • Chain 1
  • Sc in each stitch around
  • Join (52 stitches)

For Round 7

  • Chain 2
  • Dc in each stitch around
  • Join (52 stitches)

Rounds 8–24

  • Chain 1
  • Sc in each stitch around
  • Join (52 stitches)

Handle Placement

Mark Handle Positions

  • Fold the bag in half and mark the center stitch on each side with stitch markers (26 stitches apart)
  • From each center marker, count 7 stitches to each side and place new markers on the 8th stitch
  • You should now have 9 stitches between markers on both sides—this is your handle opening

Round 25 (Creating Handles)

  • Chain 1, sc to the first handle marker
  • Chain 14 (handle loop), skip 9 stitches
  • Sc from second marker to the third marker
  • Chain 14, skip 9 stitches
  • Sc to the end of the round
  • Join (52 stitches)

Round 26

  • Chain 1
  • Sc around, making 20 sc in each chain-14 space
  • Join

For Round 27

  • Chain 1
  • Sc in each stitch around
  • Make slip stitches on the handle sections
  • Join and fasten off

Weave in All Ends

 

Bag Ruffle Detail (on Round 7)

  • Insert hook into any dc post from Round 7
  • Chain 2, dc in same post
  • Chain 2, make 2 dc in front post of each dc
  • Repeat around and join

Horn

Using Yellow Yarn

  • Round 1: Make 6 sc in magic ring. Join (6 sts)
  • Round 2: Chain 1, sc in each stitch. Join (6 sts)
  • Round 3: Chain 1, sc 1, 2sc repeat around. Join (9 sts)
  • Round 4: Chain 1, sc 2, 2sc repeat around. Join (12 sts)
  • Rounds 5–10: Chain 1, sc in each stitch around. Join each round
  • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing

Ears (Make 2 in Accent Color)

  • Round 1: Make 6 sc in a magic ring. Join (6 sts)
  • Round 2: Chain 1, sc in each stitch. Join (6 sts)
  • Round 3: Chain 1, sc 1, 2sc repeat around. Join (9 sts)
  • Round 4: Chain 1, sc 2, 2sc repeat around. Join (12 sts)
  • Rounds 5–7: Chain 1, sc in each stitch. Join each round
  • Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing
  • Fold flat and sew closed at one end

Final Assembly

 

Sewing the Unicorn Details

  • Sew the horn to the top center of the bag
  • Attach ears to both sides of the horn
  • Sew crocheted flowers and leaves around the horn and ears for decoration

Embroidering the Eyes

  • Use black yarn to embroider sleepy eyes on the front of the bag
  • Repeat on the opposite side if desired
