  • Number 4 medium-weight yarn
  • 5 mm crochet hook

Pattern:

Round 1:

  • Attach the yarn onto the hook and chain five (ch 5).
  • In the first stitch, place one slip stitch (sl st) to form a little circle.
  • Chain four (ch 4), this counts as your first triple crochet (tr) and chain one space.
  • Work three double crochet (dc) inside the circle.
  • Work one triple crochet (tr) inside the circle.
  • Work three more double crochet (dc) inside the circle.
  • Repeat this sequence two more times:
  • Start with one triple crochet (tr) followed by three double crochet (dc).
  • To finish off round one, slip stitch (sl st) into the third chain of the initial four chains.

Round 2:

  • Chain four (ch 4).
  • In the same space as the chain four, place two double crochet (dc).
  • Place one double crochet (dc) in the next three stitches.
  • Create a corner by working two double crochets (dc), one triple crochet (tr), and two more double crochets (dc) into the same stitch.
  • Repeat the corner sequence for the other three corners.
  • To finish the last corner of the square, work two double crochet (dc) into the stitch that contains the chain four.
  • Close the round with a slip stitch into the third chain of the starting chain.

  • To finish, slip stitch (sl st) in the top of the third chain to close the round.

  • Repeat the corner sequence.
  • Work around until round four is complete:

  • To finish, slip stitch (sl st) in the top of the chain three to close off this round.
