Round 1:
- Ch 3 and do 4 tr stitches.
- Do 2 dc, then a tr stitch.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 to create the other side of the heart.
- Ch 2 and sl st into the magic ring to complete the round.
For Round 2:
- Fasten off the first color and sew in the tail.
- Join the second color and do 3 sc in the tr at the bottom point of the heart.
- Sc in the next 11 stitches, then do 2 sc in the next stitch.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 two more times.
- Sc in the next two stitches, sl st in the next stitch, sl st to the center point of the previous round, and then sl st in the next stitch.
- Sc in the next two stitches, then do 2 sc in the next stitch.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 two more times.
- Sc in the next 11 stitches to complete round four.
Round 3:
- Do not join, and go right into the next round.
- Start round five by putting a sc in the first stitch of the previous round. The next stitch is the center point of the bottom of your heart, so you’re going to put 2 hdc in that same stitch.
- Sc in the next stitch, sl st in the next stitch, and repeat this pattern five more times.
- Put a sl st in the last stitch before the stitch marker, sl st in the center point of your heart where the stitch marker is, and then sl st in the next stitch.
- Sc in the next stitch, 2 hdc in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch, and sl st in the next stitch.
- Repeat this pattern five more times.
- The four stitches left, so do your last scallop with a sc in the next stitch, 2 hdc in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch, and sl st in the last stitch.
Finishing:
- You shouldn’t have any stitches left. If you do, I suggest starting over and making sure you use a stitch marker so that your stitches are in the right place and you have the right stitch count.
- Flip stitch to join the round, or you can do an invisible finish.
- To make a thicker coaster, you can put two of these wrong sides together, line up the stitches, and either do a sl st all the way around or a sc all the way around.
