Main Body – First Piece

Slip Knot & Chain

  • Make a slip knot.
  • Chain 9.

First Row

  • Skip the first chain.
  • Work into the back bump of the second chain.
  • Make 1 single crochet into that back bump.
  • Continue making single crochets into each back bump for a total of 8 stitches.

Subsequent Rows

  • Chain 1.
  • Turn your work.
  • Make 1 single crochet into each of the 8 stitches across.
  • Repeat this process (ch 1, turn, 8 sc) until the piece reaches the desired length to wrap around your book.

Finishing the First Piece

  • Chain 1 at the end.
  • Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for weaving in later.

  • Make a slip knot.
  • Chain 9.

  • Continue making rows of 8 single crochet stitches.
  • Make this piece just over half the length of the first/main piece.

Finishing the Second Piece

  • Chain 1 at the end.
  • Cut the yarn and leave a yarn tail.

Joining the Pieces

Prepare the Pieces

  • Align the second piece (pocket) on top of one side of the main piece.
  • Pin or secure it in place for easier joining.

Join Yarn & First Row

  • Insert hook into stitches created from working into the back bumps.
  • Join yarn and make 1 single crochet into each of the 8 stitches.
  • Work over the yarn tail as you go to secure it.

Slip Stitch Up One Side

  • Chain 1 after the row.
  • Slip stitch evenly up the side to join both pieces together.

Single Crochet Across the Top

  • Chain 1 after reaching the top.
  • Work 1 single crochet into each of the 8 stitches across the top edge.

Slip Stitch Down the Other Side

  • Chain 1 after the top row.
  • Slip stitch evenly down the other side to close the second side.

Finishing Connection

  • Sew the end of the strap to the other side of the cover securely.

Weaving in Ends

  • Weave in the yarn tail from sewing the strap.

  • For yarn tails already worked over, trim any visible excess.
