Materials
- Yarn (weight 4 recommended)
- 5.0 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Stitch marker or scrap yarn
- Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
Waistband Creation
- Measure your waist to determine starting chain length.
- Create a slip knot and chain 6.
- Single crochet into the second stitch from the hook and across (5 stitches total).
- Chain 1 and turn. Single crochet into each stitch.
- Repeat until the waistband matches your waist measurement (e.g., 27 inches).
- Fold the waistband in half and slip stitch across both ends to join.

Skirt Body – Double Crochet Rows
- Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
- Double crochet into each stitch around the waistband.
- Slip stitch to the top of the starting chain 3 to close the round.
- Chain 3, turn, and double crochet around.
Increasing for Hips
- Alternate rows: one regular double crochet row, one increase row.
- In increase rows, place 2 double crochets in selected stitches (2 increases on each side).
To calculate increase rows:

- (Hip – Waist in inches) × 2 = number of increase rows.
Continue alternating until hip width is achieved.
Bobble Stitch Heart Design (Starts on Row 12)
- Mark the center front stitch of the skirt.
Use bobble stitch technique:
- Yarn over, insert hook, pull up two loops — repeat 5 times in same stitch.
- You should have 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all.
- To change color: pull new yarn through before completing previous stitch.
For the first heart row:
- Skip 3 double crochets between each bobble.
- Create 4 bobbles on each side of the center.

Next rows:
- Stack bobbles above previous row’s, maintaining 3 dc between.
- The middle row should have 3 bobbles.
- Optionally add “cat ears” above top bobbles.
- Finish with a single bobble at the bottom center for the point of the heart.
Continuing the Skirt
- Once hips are fully shaped, stop increases.
- Continue with regular double crochet rows until desired skirt length is reached.
Finishing Touches

Tie and trim yarn tails on the back side (use double knots).
- Pull front-side bobble tails through to the back and knot.
- Use hook to pop any flat bobbles outward.
- Remove center stitch marker and weave in final tail.
