Materials Needed:

  • Acrylic yarn in two colors (primary and trim)
  • Crochet hook (4.5 mm)
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle
  • Polyfill for stuffing
  • Headband (purchased)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Optional: Tape measure for precise placement of star muffs on the headband

Crochet Pattern:

Start with the Base:

Magic Ring:

  • Start by creating a magic ring.

Round 1:

  • Work 6 single crochets into the magic ring. Pull the tail to close the ring and slip stitch into the first single crochet to complete the round.

Round 2:

  • Chain 1. Work 2 single crochets in each stitch all around (total 12 stitches). Slip stitch into the first stitch of this round to complete.

In Round 3:

  • Chain 1. Work 2 single crochets in the next stitch, then 1 single crochet in the next stitch. Repeat from to around (total 18 stitches).

Round 4:

  • Chain 1. Work 2 single crochets in the next stitch, then 1 single crochet in each of the next two stitches. Repeat from to around (total 24 stitches).

Round 5:

  • Chain 1. Work 2 single crochets in the next stitch, then 1 single crochet in each of the next three stitches. Repeat from to around (total 30 stitches). Complete the base by slip stitching to the first stitch of this round.

Star Points:

Start each Point:

  • Work 1 single crochet in each of the next 6 stitches from the base round.

Decrease for Points:

  • Turn the work, skip the first stitch, single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches. Chain 1 and turn. Continue decreasing by one stitch in every row until you have made a complete point. Repeat this for all five points of the star.

Attachment:

Joining Points:

  • Put the wrong sides of two star shapes together, matching up the points. Single crochet around, working through both layers to join them. Leave an opening for stuffing.

Stuffing:

  • Lightly stuff each point and the center of the star muff with polyfill.

Finish:

  • Close the opening by continuing with the slip stitch. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Adding to Headband:

Wrap Yarn:

  • Using primary color yarn and hot glue, wrap the yarn tightly around the headband, securing with hot glue at intervals.

Attach Star Muffs:

  • Position the star muffs onto the wrapped headband using hot glue for a secure attachment.

Finalizing:

Trim and Adjust:

  • Make sure yarn ends are secured and trim any excess yarn. Optionally, measure and adjust the placement of star muffs using a tape measure for symmetry and desired position.
