Crochet Holiday Reindeer Ornament

Materials:

  • Brown yarn
  • Beige yarn
  • Red yarn or black yarn (for the nose)
  • Scrap piece of brown yarn (for the ornament hanger)
  • Crochet hook (size should be appropriate for the yarn you choose)
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch markers

Abbreviations:

  • MR: Magic ring
  • SC: Single crochet
  • SL ST: Slip stitch
  • INC: Increase (crochet two single crochets in the same stitch)

Body:

Crochet a magic ring in brown yarn.

Chain 6, then SC in each stitch around the ring. Pull the ring closed.

Round 2:

  • INC in the first stitch, then SC in each stitch around. Mark the first stitch of the round. (You should now have 12 stitches.)

Rounds 3-9:

  • SC in each stitch around. Mark the first stitch of each round.
  • Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Weave in the end.

Antlers:

  • Crochet a magic ring in beige yarn.
  • Chain 6, then SC in each stitch around the ring. Pull the ring closed.

Round 2:

  • SC in each stitch around. Mark the first stitch of the round.

Rounds 3-9:

  • SC in each stitch around. Mark the first stitch of each round.
  • Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Weave in the end. Repeat to make a second antler.
  • Stuff the antlers lightly and sew the smaller piece halfway up the longer piece. Weave in the end. Repeat for the second antler.

Snout:

  1. Crochet a magic ring in brown yarn.
  2. Chain 6, then SC in each stitch around the ring.
  3. Round 2: INC in the first stitch, then SC in each stitch around until you get back to the marked stitch. Mark the first stitch of the round. (You should now have 12 stitches.)
  4. Round 3: SC in each stitch around. Mark the first stitch of the round.
  5. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Weave in the end.

Ears:

  • Crochet a magic ring in brown yarn.
  • Chain 6, then SC in each stitch around the ring. Pull the ring closed.

Round 2:

  • INC in each stitch around. Mark the first stitch of the round. (You should now have 12 stitches.)
  • Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Weave in the end. Repeat to make a second ear.

Assembly:

Sew the snout onto the body, placing it between the eyes. Stuff the snout lightly as you sew.

  • Sew the antlers onto the head, placing them behind the eyes. Stuff the bases of the antlers lightly if desired.
  • Pinch the ears in half and sew them onto the sides of the head, directly beneath the antlers.
  • Embroider the nose using red or black yarn.
  • Double knot and secure all the ends of the yarn.
  • Attach a scrap piece of brown yarn to the top of the head to create a hanging loop, if desired.
