Crochet Christmas Top
Materials Needed:
- Weight 4 acrylic yarn in red
- Fluffy yarn in white or creamy white
- 4mm crochet hook
- Darning needle
- Tape measure
- Scissors
Part 1: Body Portion
Measure around your bust using the tape measure.
- Make a slip knot and chain enough stitches to fit around your bust (120 chains for a size medium).
- Join the chain ends to form a ring, being sure the chain is not twisted. Make a slipknot to join.
- Chain two (counts as the first double crochet), then double crochet in each chain around.
- Join with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain two.
- Chain two and turn (you should turn the piece at the end of each row to create a flat seam).
- For the second row, double crochet in each stitch around, then join and turn.
Part 2: Mesh Design
8. Chain two and turn.
- Double crochet in the first stitch, then chain one, skip a stitch, double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat - around.
- Join with a slip stitch to the top of the starting chain two.
- Repeat step 9 for the next 11 rows (total of 12 mesh rows).
In Part 3: Additional Double Crochet Rows
12. After completing the mesh rows, chain two and turn.
- Begin double crochet rows by evenly spacing double crochets into the mesh (double crochet, double crochet in the chain-one space, repeat).
- Make a slip stitch to join and chain two at each row's end.
- Repeat for seven rows in total (or until desired length is achieved), then finish off the yarn.
Part 4: Sleeves
16. Measure the widest part of your arm.
- Chain the number of stitches to match that measurement (50 chains for example), plus one chain for turning.
- Double crochet in the second chain from the hook, then chain one, skip a stitch, double crochet in the next stitch. Repeat - across.
- Chain one and turn at the end of the row.
- For the next row, double crochet into each double crochet stitch and chain-one space from the previous row.
- Continue repeating the mesh pattern until the sleeve is long enough to cover your arm length plus the shoulder width (108 rows in the example).
- Fold the sleeve and sew the edges to form a tube.
For Part 5: Assembly
- 23. Align the sleeve openings with the armhole area on the body portion, using stitch markers to hold in place.
- Sew the sleeves onto the body portion.
Part 6: Fluffy Yarn Detail
- 25. Attach the fluffy yarn with a slip stitch at the cuff of the sleeve or bottom of the top.
- Single crochet around the edge, then fasten off the yarn and weave in any loose ends.
- Repeat the process for the other sleeve and the bottom of the top.
