  • Number 4 medium yarn (Red Heart Super Saver Stripe suggested)
  • Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook for the body
  • Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook for the brim

Pattern:

Starting / Foundation:

  • Make a magic ring.
  • Chain 7 (counts as the first double crochet plus chain 4).
  • Double crochet into the magic ring.
  • Chain 4.
  • Repeat from to until you have 8 double crochets and 8 chain-4 spaces.
  • Pull magic ring tight to close.
  • Chain 2, then half double crochet into the third chain of the starting chain-7 to complete the round.

Round 2:

  • Chain 7 (counts as the first double crochet plus chain 4).
  • In the next chain-4 space, double crochet, chain 4, and double crochet (increase made).
  • Chain 4, then double crochet in the next chain-4 space.

  • End with a chain 4, then a chain 2, and half double crochet into the third chain of starting chain-7.

Round 3 and Beyond:

  • Chain 7 (counts as the first double crochet plus chain 4).
  • Double crochet in the chain-4 space.
  • Chain 4. Double crochet in the next chain-4 space.
  • Continue chain 4, increase in the next chain-4 space around.
  • Repeat the sequence until you reach the desired width of the increases.
