Crochet Oversized Mobius Scarf
Materials Needed:
- Yarn: 100% acrylic lightweight yarn (number 3 weight)
- Yarn Colors: Mustard/yellow, Red, Gray
- Hook: 5mm crochet hook (H8 US)
- Tape Measure
- Scissors
Pattern:
Foundation Chain:
- Begin by creating a foundation chain.
- The length of your chain will determine the size of the scarf.
- For the sample, chain 40.
- For a larger scarf, chain 140.
Joining:
- Join the chain to form a circle by slip stitching into the first chain. Be sure the chain is not twisted.
Starting the First Round:
- Chain 2 (counts as a stitch) and then double crochet in each chain around.
Creating the Mobius Effect:
- Instead of joining with a slip stitch at the end of the round, pivot your work and continue double crocheting in the opposite side of the foundation chain.
- This creates the Mobius effect.
- Continue double crocheting around the circle.
Continuing the Rounds:
- Each round will create two rows of double crochet, as you crochet on both sides of the foundation chain.
- Repeat steps 3-4 for a total of ten rounds.
- Each round should bring you back to the starting point.
Changing Colors:
- To change colors, slip stitch to close the round, cut the yarn, and join the new color.
- Repeat the double crochet rounds with the new color.
- Continue changing colors every few rounds or as desired.
- Make sure to maintain the Mobius effect by pivoting the work at the end of each round.
Finishing:
- Once you've completed the desired length of the scarf, finish with a slip stitch on the chain-2 at the end of the round.
- Cut the yarn, fasten off, and weave in any loose ends.
