Two sample bookmarks were made with different widths and lengths based on the size of yarn and hook used.

  • The smaller bookmark measures 1 inch wide and 7.5 inches long (made with super fine yarn and 2.25 mm hook).
  • The larger bookmark measures 1.5 inches wide and 9.5 inches long (made with fashion crochet thread and E4 hook).

Crocheting the Bookmark:

  • Start with a chain of 42.
  • Work 6 single crochets into the second chain from the hook.
  • Continue to single crochet in alternating stitches and work 6 single crochets in the same stitch.
  • Repeat the pattern (single crochet, 6 single crochets in one stitch) until the end of the foundation chain.
  • At the end of the foundation chain, work 6 single crochets in the last chain.

Adding Tassel:

  • Cut two pieces of yarn (about 20 inches each) and fold them in half.
  • Insert the folded end through the bottom of the bookmark where you want the tassel.
  • Tie a knot to secure the tassel.
  • Twist or braid the yarn strands, leaving a small loop at the top of the tassel.
  • Add beads to the yarn strands (two threads each) by threading them onto a yarn needle.
  • Tie knots at the end of the yarn to secure the beads and tassel.

Blocking the Bookmark:

  • Dampen the finished bookmark without getting the beads wet.
  • Press out excess water and lay the bookmark on a towel.
  • Let the bookmark dry and then gently stretch it out to ensure it lays flat.
  • Use a blocking mat or weight to help the bookmark maintain its shape while drying.
