It’s a creative way to refresh old footwear or make personalized gifts. You can easily customize the colors to match your favorite outfits—perfect for beach days, lounging, or casual strolls.

Materials

  • Four balls of acrylic double knit yarn (25g each) in two colors—one for the ruffles and one lighter or contrasting shade
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook for the ruffles
  • 3 mm crochet hook for the highlight row
  • Scissors
  • A pair of flip-flops

Attach Yarn and First Row (Single Crochet)

  • Make a slip knot.
  • Insert your hook under the flip-flop strap and into the slip knot. Pull yarn through and secure.
  • Work single crochets (SC) all around the strap until you reach the other end.
  • Pull stitches slightly backward as you go to keep them tight and neat for fuller ruffles.

Second Ruffle Row (Optional for Volume)

  • Chain 2 (ch 2) to start the row.
  • In the next stitch, work two double crochets (DC).
  • Continue with three double crochets (DC) in each stitch to the end for a fuller ruffle effect.

Final Row (Single Crochet with Contrast Color)

  • Attach the contrasting yarn (e.g., pink) at the last stitch of the previous row.
  • Work single crochets (SC) evenly across the entire strap to outline and highlight the ruffles.
  • Crochet over any loose ends as you go to avoid extra weaving.

  • Cut the yarn and secure all ends neatly.
