Materials

  • Wool yarn
  • Crochet hook
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors

Starting the Toe

  • Begin with a slip knot.
  • Make 20 chains plus 2 extra chains (measure against your toes).

Crochet Winter Socks 1

Row 1:

  • Mark the second-to-last chain and make 2 more chains.
  • Place 1 single crochet where the marker is.
  • Mark the first stitch of the row.
  • Make 1 single crochet in each of the 20 chains.
  • Work 1 half double crochet on the other side of the chain for 20 more stitches.
  • Join with 1 slip stitch in the starting chain.

Row 2:

  • Chain 2 (counts as first stitch), mark it.
  • 1 half double crochet in each stitch, with 1 increase (total 41 stitches).
  • Join with 1 slip stitch.

For Row 3:

  • Chain 2 (counts as first stitch).
  • 1 half double crochet in each stitch (41 stitches).
  • Join with 1 slip stitch.

Rows 4–5:

  • Repeat Rows 2 and 3 (ending with 42 stitches).

Rounds 6–11:

  • Chain 2, 1 single crochet in each stitch (42 stitches).
  • End each round with a slip stitch.

Rounds 12–15:

  • Round 12: 1 single crochet in each stitch + 1 increase (43 stitches).
  • Round 13: 1 single crochet in each stitch + 1 increase (44 stitches).
  • Round 14: 1 single crochet in each stitch + 1 increase (45 stitches).
  • Round 15: 1 single crochet in each stitch + 1 increase (46 stitches).

For Rounds 16–38:

  • Chain 2, 1 single crochet in each stitch (46 stitches).
  • Continue until the sock covers the instep.

Heel of the Sock

  • After Round 38, chain 1 and cut the yarn.
  • Divide the fabric in two and mark.
  • Join yarn with a knot.
  • Row 1 of heel:
  • Chain 2, 1 half double crochet in each stitch until the mark (23 stitches).

Row 2:

  • Chain 2, turn.
  • Mark the center, 1 half double crochet in each stitch + 1 double decrease at center (22 stitches).

  • Chain 2, turn.

For Rows 3–13:

  • Repeat Row 3, decreasing by 1 stitch each row until reaching 11 stitches.
  • Adjusting the sock:
  • Chain 2, turn.
  • 1 half double crochet to last 2 stitches, 1 triple decrease.
  • 1 half double crochet to second-to-last stitch, 1 triple decrease.
  • 1 half double crochet to center, 1 double decrease.
  • 1 half double crochet to end.
  • Join with 1 slip stitch.
