Crochet Fingerless Gloves
Materials Needed:
- Category 4 yarn (color choice is optional; example uses purple)
- 5.5 mm crochet hook (or hook size applicable to the yarn category)
- Darning needle
- Scissors
Pattern Instructions
Starting the Glove
Create a Slip Knot:
- Begin by making a slip knot on your crochet hook.
Chain Stitches:
- Chain enough stitches to reach the desired length of your glove, from the middle of your fingers to above the wrist. For the tutorial, 30 chains were used.
Additional Chains:
- Add 2 more chains to the initial 30 (or your total) for turning.
Row 1: Half Double Crochet (HDC)
Start from the Third Chain:
- Skip the first two chains from the hook. In the third chain, start your half double crochet.
Execute the HDC:
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the chain, yarn over and pull through, yarn over and pull through all three loops on the hook.
Continue the Pattern:
- Work a HDC in each chain across the row.
End of Row:
- Chain 2 and then turn your work.
Row 2 & Beyond: Back Loop Half Double Crochet (BLHDC)
Initial Steps:
- Skip the first two chains of the new row.
Working in BL Only:
- For this row and for all subsequent rows, work only into the back loops of each stitch using HDC.
Repeat the Process:
- Continue to implement BLHDC across all stitches.
End of Rows:
- At the end of each row, chain 2 and turn your work.
Continue Crocheting
Repeat the pattern:
- Continue with BLHDC for as many rows as needed until the piece wraps comfortably around your hand. The example requires about 17 rows in total.
Forming the Glove
Seaming:
- When you reach the final length, place sides together to form a tube.
Starting with a Chain 1:
- Instead of chaining 2, chain just 1 at the end of your last row.
Slip Stitching Along the Edges:
- Use slip stitches to join the edges together.
Creating a Thumb Hole:
- Decide where to place the thumb hole and continue slip stitching until you reach this point. Skip stitches equal to the width of the thumb hole, then resume slip stitching the sides together after the thumb hole until the end.
Finishing Touches
Secure Endings:
- At the very end of seaming the thumb hole, chain 1 and cut the yarn, leaving a small tail.
Weave in Ends:
- Use a darning needle to sew the tail ends into the inside of the glove for a neat finish.
Final Adjustments:
- Turn the glove inside out - your sleeveless glove is now ready to wear!
Tips:
- Ensure consistent tension to keep the glove fitting well.
- Customize the length of the glove or the size of the thumb hole based on personal preference.
