Crochet Beanie
Materials:
- Yarn: Troitskaya yarn (200 meters, 80 grams), approximately 70 grams needed.
- Crochet Hook: 4 mm (Knit Pro Mellow hooks recommended).
- Additional: Contrasting thread for casting on, needle for sewing.
Pattern Instructions
Starting Off
- Foundation Chain:
- With a contrasting thread, cast on 50 air loops, counting the first loop as a loop.
Main Hat Body
First Row:
- Switch to the main yarn color. Make an aerial lifting loop, plus one more. Begin by inserting the hook behind the far bow into the second link and make a connecting loop. Continue with connecting loops through each chain, for a total of 50 loops. Knit loosely to avoid a tight, constricted fabric.
Following Rows:
- Perform aerial lifting loops at the start of each new row and turn your work to start the next row.
Rows 2-19:
- Continue with 50 connecting loops per row, maintaining a loose tension.
After Row 20-27:
- Begin shaping by decreasing one loop at the end of each pair of rows, resulting in 49 loops for 4 pairs of rows.
Rows 28-35:
- Decrease one loop again at the end of each pair of rows, resulting in 48 loops for another 4 pairs.
Increasing Rows:
Row 36 onwards:
- Start increasing by adding one loop at the end of the row. Continue increasing at the same rate you were decreasing until you return to 50 loops per row.
Repeat Pattern:
- Continue working in this pattern, alternating between increasing and decreasing sections to shape the hat, until you reach your desired length before the crown.
Crown and Finishing
Crown Shaping:
- Repeat the decreasing method used for the body of the hat to shape the crown, reducing loops per row as you did initially.
Closing the Hat:
First Method (Beginner):
- Create a seam using a simple stitching method for beginners, which will leave a slight visible seam on one side. Fold the hat, matching up the rows, and use a needle or the crochet hook to stitch it together from the inside to minimize the visibility of the seam.
Second Method (Advanced):
- For a seamless and ideal finish, remove the contrasting thread used for the foundation chain. Sew the hat together mimicking the crochet pattern for an invisible seam, using a needle and thread, ensuring each stitch follows the same path as your contrasting guide thread.
Finishing:
- Sew the top of the hat by combining the steps or "pimples" at the crown with a needle and thread, ensuring a snug closure.
