How To Crochet Cardigan Pattern For All Sizes In Pink Color

This basic crochet cardigan pattern is perfect for beginners and anyone who wants a cozy, custom-fit wardrobe piece they can wear all year. The design uses simple stitches, clear shaping, and personalized measurements so you can create a cardigan that fits exactly the way you want it.

Crochet Pink Cardigan

Crochet Handmade Cardigan Free EASY Pattern

With chunky yarn, clean ribbing, and adjustable length and width, this cardigan works for oversized, fitted, cropped, or long styles. It’s a versatile project that looks impressive while staying practical and beginner friendly.

Materials

  • 6mm hook for the main body
  • 5mm hook for ribbing
  • Approx. 700g chunky or bulky yarn
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • Stitch markers
  • Three buttons

Preparation and Measurements

  • Measure full length from shoulder to desired hem.
  • Measure full width across chest or back.
  • Measure arm length and arm width and add 6 to 7 inches for oversized fit.
  • Measure wrist circumference.
  • Ribbing pieces should be about 2 inches tall.
  • Main stitch is Half Double Crochet.
  • Ribbing uses Back Loop Only HDC or Back Loop Only SC depending on the section.

Crochet Handmade Cardigan 1

Create All Ribbing Pieces

  • Make a slip knot and chain 11 or until the piece measures about 3 inches tall.
  • Work a Half Double Crochet into the third chain from the hook and then into each chain.
  • Chain 2 and turn.
  • Work Half Double Crochet into the back loop only of each stitch across.
  • Repeat until the ribbing reaches the width needed.
  • Make five ribbing pieces.
  • Make two wrist ribbings to fit the wrist circumference.
  • Make two front panel ribbings to match the front panel width.
  • Make one back panel ribbing to match the back width.

Create Main Panels and Sleeves

  • Switch to a 6mm hook and work all rows in normal Half Double Crochet.

Back Panel

  • Attach yarn to a corner of the ribbing and chain 2.
  • Work Half Double Crochet evenly across the long edge of the ribbing.
  • Chain 2 and turn.
  • Work one Half Double Crochet into each stitch across.
  • Continue until the panel reaches full length minus 2 inches.

Front Panels

  • Repeat the same steps as the back panel using each front ribbing.
  • Make both panels the same height as the back.

Sleeves

  • Chain to match arm width measurement.
  • Work Half Double Crochet into the third chain from the hook and each stitch across.
  • Chain 2 and turn.
  • Work Half Double Crochet across each row.
  • Continue until the panel reaches arm length minus 2 inches.

Create the Middle Ribbing for Front Opening

  • Switch to a 5mm hook.
  • Attach yarn to the bottom inner corner of the front panel and chain 6.
  • Single Crochet from the second chain back to the first chain.
  • Slip stitch into the next two stitches on the panel edge.
  • Turn and work five Back Loop Only Single Crochets up the ribbing.
  • Chain 1 and turn and work five Back Loop Only Single Crochets down.
  • Repeat the sequence of slip stitch twice, turn, BLOSC up, chain 1, BLOSC down until reaching the top.

Add Buttonholes on Second Panel

  • Work from top to bottom.
  • Mark three buttonhole positions.
  • Work BLOSC to the first marked space.
  • Chain 2.
  • Skip two stitches.
  • Work BLOSC into the last two stitches.
  • Continue the normal ribbing sequence for the remaining rows.

Assembly

Shoulders and Collar

  • Lay the back panel flat and place the front panels on top.
  • Fold the top corners back to form the collar and mark shoulder positions.
  • Turn the work inside out.
  • Slip stitch from the top of the ribbing down to the stitch marker.
  • Repeat on the other shoulder.
  • Optionally work one round of Single Crochet around the neck edge.

Attach Wrist Ribbing to Sleeves

  • Lay sleeve and ribbing together with wrong sides facing out.
  • Slip stitch them together while skipping two or three stitches on the sleeve for each ribbing stitch to create a gathered cuff.

Attach Sleeves to Body

  • Keep the cardigan inside out.
  • Center the sleeve edge on the shoulder seam.
  • Attach yarn and slip stitch the sleeve to the armhole edge.

Side Seams and Sleeve Seams

  • Keep the cardigan inside out.
  • Attach yarn at the hem.
  • Slip stitch up the side seam, across the armpit, and down the sleeve to the wrist.
  • Repeat on the other side.

Finishing

  • Turn the cardigan right side out.
  • Sew three buttons onto the panel without buttonholes and align them with the openings.
  • Weave in all loose ends.
