Materials Needed:

  • crochet hook
  • yarn

Starting the Pattern:

Create a Starting Loop:

  • Begin by making a loop to start the crochet pattern.

Initial Stitches:

  • Into the loop, crochet three double crochets.

Chain Two:

  • After the double crochets, make two chains.
  • You will now have a small shape forming from the starting loop.

Adding to the Ring:

  • Insert the hook in the middle of the starting ring and make another three double crochets followed by two chains.

Cutting and Changing Yarn:

Cutting the Extra Yarn:

  • After the initial formation, cut the extra yarn.

More Double Crochets:

  • Add another set of three double crochets, followed by two chains.

Expanding the Shape:

Creating the Corner:

  • Insert the hook in the third chain and make one slip stitch, creating a corner shape.

Adding Stitches:

  • Insert the hook in the next stitch and make one slip stitch. Repeat the slip stitch in the next stitch.

Changing Yarn Color:

  • If you wish to change the yarn color, this is the moment to do it before continuing with the pattern.

Continuing the Pattern:

Yarn Color Change (Optional):

  • Choose a different color and start by making three chains after attaching the new yarn.

Completing the Shape:

  • In the corner, add two double crochets.
  • Make two chains.
  • Add another three double crochets in the same corner.

Repeat the Pattern:

  • Continue the same pattern (3 double crochets, 2 chains, 3 double crochets) in each corner.

Finishing the Round:

Completing the Corners:

  • After finishing all corners, connect with a slip stitch in the third chain where you started.

Final Rounds:

  • Depending on the desired size of your work, continue adding rounds by following the established pattern.

Attaching and Finishing:

Attaching Motifs:

  • If creating a project that requires multiple motifs (like a mug cosy), crochet the desired number of motifs. For a mug, you might need around three motifs.

Joining Motifs:

  • Use a yarn needle or hook to join the motifs together at the back with slip stitches or single crochets, based on what your project needs.

Final Touches:

  • Add any final edging or stitching required to complete your project.
