Materials Needed:
- Approximately 30g (40g for a larger scrunchie) of yarn suitable for a 4.5mm crochet hook.
- A 4.5mm crochet hook.
- Scissors.
- A darning needle.
- An elastic band (preferably a thicker one to support the yarn).
Scrunchie Pattern:

Start with a Slip Knot:
- Twist your yarn and pull it through itself to create a slip knot.
- Place the crochet hook in the loop and tighten around the hook by pulling the long end.
Attaching Yarn to Elastic:
- Make a slip stitch around the elastic band to attach the yarn.
- Chain up one and start making single crochets into the band, covering the short tail end as you go by wrapping it over the hook.
- Continue single crocheting around the elastic, pushing the stitches together to avoid gaps.
- Keep crocheting until the elastic is fully covered and the yarn color is visible without any elastic showing through.

First Row of Double Crochets:
- Slip stitch into the first single crochet.
- Chain two, and make double crochet increases in every stitch by adding two double crochets into each.

Second Row of Double Crochets:
- After completing the first row of double crochets (increases), slip stitch into the top of the first double crochet of the previous row.
- Chain two and repeat the process of making double crochet increases (two double crochets in every stitch) all the way around.

Finishing the Scrunchie:
- After completing the second row of increases, you can decide on the final row based on how ruffled you want the scrunchie:
- For a larger ruffle, continue with double crochet increases.
- For the same ruffle size, alternate between one double crochet in one stitch and two in the next.
- To tone down the ruffles, put one double crochet in every stitch.
- Slip stitch to finish the row once you've made your desired adjustments.

Adding a Single Crochet Edge (Optional):
- Fasten off the base color.
- Attach a new color with a slip knot and insert the hook into the first stitch.
- Slip stitch to attach the new color, chain one, and make single crochets all the way around.
- Slip stitch into the first single crochet to join.
Weave in Ends:
- Cut the yarn, leaving a tail.
- Pull the yarn through to fasten and use the darning needle to weave the ends into your work.
Final Single Crochet (Optional Different Color):
- Attach another color yarn with a slip knot for a contrasting edge.
- Make single crochets around the scrunchie for a colorful trim.
- Finish by fastening off and weaving in the ends as before.
