Crochet Gearshift Hoodie
Materials Required:
- Leftover yarn (the project in the video uses a 4-weight yarn)
- Crochet hook size H/8 (5.00 mm)
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
Pattern Overview:
- This project creates a cozy "hoodie" for your car's gear shift stick, including arms, a pocket, and a hood, worked in continuous rounds and rows without joining.
Gear Shift Hoodie Pattern:
Arms (Make 2):
- Begin with a slip knot, chain 8.
- Connect to the beginning of your chain to form a circle.
- Round 1: Make a single crochet in each chain around for a total of 8 single crochets. Do not join at the end of the round; work in a continuous spiral.
- Repeat Round 1 for a total of 20 rounds (or until the tube is about the length of 20 rows), creating a long tube. This forms one arm. Repeat the process for the second arm.
Pocket:
- Start with a slip knot, then chain 4.
- Row 1: Skip the first chain (turning chain), make 2 single crochets in the next chain (increase made), then 1 single crochet in each of the next 2 chains. You will have 4 single crochets.
- Increase at the start of each row to create a small trapezoid until you have rows with 6, 7, and finally 8 single crochets. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail.
Body and Hood:
- Measure the circumference of your gear shift stick. For the creator, 25 chains were enough. Adjust the number of chains according to your measurements.
- Make 25 chains (or the number that fits your gear stick), plus 1 turning chain.
- Row 1-10: Work back and forth in single crochets for 10 rows to create the base of the body.
- After the 10th row, count and mark 5 stitches in from both edges for armhole placement.
- Continue working in rounds, attaching the arms at the marked stitches without sewing, using single crochets to secure them in place.
- After attaching the arms, continue crocheting around the body, increasing as necessary to match the shape of the gear stick. Add the pocket by attaching it to the front with single crochets.
- Finally, create the hood by continuing to crochet in rounds, gradually decreasing to close the top of the hood. Seam the hood closed using a crochet hook or a needle, without sewing, by weaving through the loops.
Finishing Touches:
- Tuck in all the yarn ends and secure them.
- Try fitting the hoodie on your gear shift to ensure it fits well.
