Easy Crochet Double Woollen Cap With Pom Pom Pattern

This crochet hat pattern is a timeless favorite that’s both warm and stylish. Using simple Double Crochet (DC) stitches, this project works up quickly and is perfect for beginners. The hat is made in the round, starting from the crown and continuing evenly down the body to form a soft, cozy cap.

You can customize the size by adjusting your number of increasing rounds and even add a ribbed brim for a snug, polished finish. Ideal for chilly weather, this woollen hat makes a practical gift or a go-to winter essential for anyone.

Materials

  • Woollen yarn suitable for cold weather
  • Crochet hook appropriate for your yarn weight
  • Yarn needle and scissors

Initial Setup

  • Start with a slip knot and create a Magic Ring or chain a few stitches and slip stitch to form a loop.

The Crown (Increasing Rounds)

  • Chain 2 or 3 (counts as the first DC).
  • Work 11 DC into the ring.
  • Slip stitch to join.
  • Chain 2 or 3.
  • Work 2 DC in every stitch around.
  • Slip stitch to join.
  • Chain 2 or 3.

  • Work 1 DC in the next stitch, then 2 DC in the following stitch.
  • Repeat around and join.
  • Chain 2 or 3.
  • Work 1 DC in the next 2 stitches, then 2 DC in the following stitch.
  • Repeat around and join.
  • Continue this pattern, adding one extra DC between each increase per round until the crown diameter is 6–7 inches for an adult.

The Body (Working Even)

  • Chain 2 or 3. Work 1 DC in every stitch around the hat.
  • Repeat this round until the hat reaches your desired length from crown to brim.

Brim and Finishing

  • For a snug edge, switch to Single Crochet, Half Double Crochet, or use Front/Back Post Double Crochet for a ribbed look.
  • Once the hat reaches the desired length, cut the yarn and weave the tail through the last loop to secure.
  • Weave in all loose ends inside the hat to finish neatly.
