Pattern Instructions:

Ring and First Row:

Start with a magic ring:

  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain 3.

Second Row:

  • Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
  • Double crochet into the same space, then two double crochets in each chain space around.

  • You should have 24 double crochets in this round.

Third Row:

  • Two double crochets into the next chain space, one double crochet into the following chain space.
  • Continue with two double crochets in one space and one double crochet in the next around.

  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.

Fourth Row:

  • Alternate between one and two double crochets in each chain space (starting with one double crochet into each of the next two chain spaces, followed by two into the next).
  • Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 3.

Fifth Row:

  • Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
  • Follow the pattern of one double crochet into each of the next three spaces, then two double crochets in the fourth space.

Final Rows:

  • Chain 3 and double crochet in each stitch all the way around without increases.
  • Check the size (should measure about 6 inches in length).
  • Fold the piece in half to find the midpoint at the front. Place a stitch marker there.
  • Start next rows where you continue double crochet stitches but make decreases around the marked point to create the turban twist by skipping stitches as explained previously.

Turban Twist:

Create blade pleats:

  • at the front to form the turban effect and carefully sew these pleats in place.

Finishing Touches:

Make a band:

  • by chaining 15, then work single crochets back along the chain for three rows.
  • Attach this band to the hat to cover up the gathered stitching, sewing securely around.
  • Weave in all ends securely and trim excess yarn.

Decoration (Optional):

  • Add buttons, flowers, or other decorations as desired to enhance the look of your turban beanie.
