Crochet Sunflower Pot

Crochet Sunflower Pot

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn (colors needed: sunflower colors, green for the stem and leaves, and brown for the soil and the pot)
  • Crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Wire, 15 cm piece (for the leaf)
  • Cotton (for stuffing the pot)
  • Glue

Sunflower Seow (Center)

  • Row 1: Start with a magic ring, crochet 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring, pull the yarn tight, and slip stitch (sl st) to the first sc to close the ring.
  • Row 2: Chain 1, then make an increase (2 sc in the same stitch) all around (for a total of 6 increases). Slip stitch to the first sc.
  • Row 3: Chain 1. Sc in the first, increase in the next stitch, repeat around. Finish with a sl st to the first sc.
  • Row 4: Chain 1. Sc in the first 2 stitches, then make an increase. Repeat the pattern around. Finish with a sl st.

  • Row 5: Chain 1. Sc in the first 3 stitches, then make an increase. Repeat the pattern around. Finish with a sl st, chain 1, and cut the yarn.

Stamens (In Brown)

  • Follow the pattern of the seow.

Pedal (Petals)

  • Join yarn to the seow and stamen assembly.
  • Chain 2, make a double crochet (dc) and a treble crochet (tr) into the same stitch.
  • Chain 2, then slip stitch in the second chain from the hook.
  • Repeat the pattern to create a total of 7 petals, leaving a space for stuffing.
  • After the 7th petal, continue to crochet three more petals to complete the sunflower look with a total of 10 petals.

Leaves

  • Begin with a slip knot. Chain 8.
  • Lay the wire along the chain and crochet around it for structure.
  • Follow a pattern that creates a leaf shape (sc, half-double crochet (hdc), dc in succession, finishing back to sc).
  • Fasten off and secure wire ends.

Pot

  • Row 1: Start with a magic ring, make 8 sc into the ring. Pull tight and sl st to close.
  • Row 2: Chain 1, then make an increase in each stitch around (8 times). Sl st to close.
  • Continue following the pattern for the pot, increasing stitches for width and then continuing in sc for height for rows 7 to 12.
  • Row 13: Start decreases to narrow the top of the pot. Add texture or decorative stitches as desired for the final rows.

Soil

  • Create a small disc using a magic ring and increase in a similar fashion to the pot's bottom.

Assembly

  • Stuff the pot with cotton.
  • Sew or glue the soil to the top of the pot.
  • Insert the sunflower into the soil top.
  • Use glue and yarn to create additional detail like branches or vines.
