Crochet Ribbed Beanie Pattern With DC BLO Stitches

December 9, 2025 by Content Director

This Crochet Ribbed Beanie pattern is perfect for anyone who wants to make a warm, stylish, and stretchy winter hat using simple stitches. The design uses the Double Crochet Back Loop Only (DC BLO) technique to create a beautiful ribbed texture that looks knitted but is completely crocheted.

The pattern is easy to follow, beginner friendly, and can be customized in any size by adjusting the foundation chain and the number of rows. You can finish it with a pompom, flower, or decorative appliqué to match your style. It’s a great project for quick gifts or cozy accessories.

Materials

  • Medium-weight yarn (any soft acrylic or wool blend)
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Foundation Chain

  • Create a slip knot and chain until the length measures about 28 cm (11 inches).
  • This determines the height of your cap.

Row 1 (Double Crochet Row)

  • Chain 2 (counts as turning chain).
  • Work one Double Crochet into the third chain from the hook and in every chain across the row.

Row 2 (Begin Ribbing Pattern)

  • Chain 2 and turn your work.
  • Work one Double Crochet into the Back Loop Only (BLO) of each stitch across the row.

Repeat Rows

  • Continue repeating the previous row until your piece measures approximately 46 cm (18 inches) wide or fits comfortably around the head.

Seaming the Cap

  • Fold the rectangle in half with the right sides facing each other.
  • Use slip stitches to join the two short ends together to form a tube.

Closing the Top

  • Cut a long tail of yarn and thread it onto a needle.
  • Weave the needle in and out along the open top edge of the cap.
  • Pull the yarn tightly to close the top and secure with extra stitches.

Finishing Touches
