Materials

  • Yarn: Medium four weight yarn (Big Twist Big Value recommended)
  • Hook: 4.5 mm
  • Notions: Scissors, measuring tape, stitch markers, yarn needle

Part 1: The Foot/Toe (Half Double Crochet)

  • Start with a slip stitch and chain 3 or create a magic ring.
  • Slip stitch into the first chain to form a loop.
  • Chain 1 and make 12 hdc into the loop.
  • Slip stitch to close.
  • Chain 1, make 2 hdc in every stitch (24 stitches total).
  • Slip stitch to close.

  • For a looser fit, you may add an extra increase row, alternating increases.
  • Chain 1, hdc in each stitch around for 24 rows.
  • Slip stitch to close each round.

The Heel Flap and Seaming (Half Double Crochet)

  • Work over 14 hdc for the heel flap.
  • Chain 1, turn, and continue with 14 hdc for 8 rows.
  • Fold the heel flap and slip stitch the sides together to form the heel.
  • Chain 1, turn, and slip stitch along the edge to return to the sock opening.

Ankle/Leg Transition (Half Double Crochet)

  • Chain 1, pick up 8 hdc along one side of the heel flap.
  • Continue with 1 hdc across the ankle and another 8 hdc along the opposite side.
  • Slip stitch to close the round.
  • Chain 1 and hdc in each stitch around (29 hdc total). Slip stitch to close.

The Leg (Double Crochet)

  • Chain 2 and work 1 dc in each stitch around. Slip stitch to close.
  • Continue 14 rounds of dc for the straight section.
  • On Row 15, increase every fourth stitch (3 dc, then 2 dc in the 4th).
  • On Row 16, increase every fifth stitch (4 dc, then 2 dc in the 5th).
  • Continue with 1 dc in each stitch for the remaining rounds until reaching thigh length.

Crochet Thigh High Socks 3

  • Total of about 48 rows for the leg section.

Finishing

  • Chain 100 stitches to create a tie string.
  • Weave the tie through the top edge of the sock between dc stitches.
  • Adjust and tighten to fit comfortably around the thigh.
