  • Crochet hook (3.5 mm suggested, smaller than the original G hook)
  • Buttons for eyes (⅝ inch or 15 mm)
  • Keychain ring
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

  • Small amount of stuffing or scrap yarn to stuff the owl keychain

Pattern:

Round 1:

  • Create a magic ring.
  • Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
  • Work 8 double crochet into the ring.
  • Pull the tail to close the ring, leaving almost no space.
  • Slip stitch to the first chain 3 to finish the round.

Round 2:

  • Change color to your next chosen yarn color.
  • Work stitches between double crochets from Round 1.
  • Start with a chain 2 (counts as first half double crochet).
  • Work 2 half double crochet into each space between the double crochets around.
  • By the end of the round, you should have 16 half double crochet.
  • Slip stitch to the top of chain 2 to join.

For Round 3:

  • Change color to your next chosen yarn color.
  • Single crochet, chain 1, between each half double crochet around.
  • You should have 16 single crochet and 16 chain 1 spaces when finished.

Round 4:

  • Change color to your next chosen yarn color.
  • In each chain 1 space, work 2 single crochet and chain 1.
  • By the end of the round, you should have 32 single crochet and 16 chain 1 spaces.

Round 5:

  • Change to your final yarn color.
  • Work 3 single crochet in each of the next eleven chain 1 spaces (should have five chain 1 spaces left).
  • For the next five chain 1 spaces, create the ears following the pattern:
  • 3 double crochet into the next space.
  • 2 half double crochet into the next space.
  • 1 single crochet into the next space.
  • 2 half double crochet into the next space.
  • 3 double crochet into the last space.
  • Slip stitch to join to the first single crochet of this round.

Final Round (Ear Shaping):

  • Turn your work.
  • Skip the first double crochet stitch.
  • In the next stitches, work the following sequence to shape the ear:
  • Single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, triple crochet, and then a set in reverse order (starting with the double crochet) to mirror the shape of the opposite ear.
  • Slip stitch into the next stitch to finish the shaping.

Assembly:

  • Make two pieces from the above pattern for the front and the back of the owl.
  • Sew on the buttons for eyes, add a beak with orange yarn.
  • Place wrong sides together and sew around the edge, leaving a gap for stuffing.
  • Stuff the owl and sew to close the gap.
  • Attach the keychain ring as you sew.
