Materials Needed:

  • Size G crochet hook
  • Worsted weight yarn

Pattern:

  • Start with a slip stitch.
  • Chain 12.
  • In the 11th chain from the hook, make a single crochet.
  • In the next chain, make a half double crochet.
  • Chain 1, then single crochet into the middle stitch (likely 9th chain from the start).
  • Single crochet in the 10th and again in the 9th chain from the start to create the base of the leaf.

Creating the first eye (loop) of the leaf:

  • Chain 5.
  • Count back 3 chains, and in the 3rd chain, pull through a loop and chain 1.
  • In this loop, make a half double crochet.
  • Follow with one double crochet.
  • Make another half double crochet.
  • Finish the loop with three single crochets.

Connecting to the stem:

  • Make a single crochet into the next two chains along the initial chain.

Creating the second eyelet:

  • Chain 5.
  • Go back into the 4th chain, pull through and single crochet.
  • Make a half double.
  • Add two double crochets in succession.
  • Step down with a half double crochet.
  • Make three single crochets.

Connecting to the stem:

  • Single crochet into the next two stitches along the stem.

Creating larger eyelets:

  • For the last two eyelets of the leaf, chain 6 instead of 5.
  • Count 5 chains and pull through a loop, then chain 1.
  • Fill this loop with five double crochets.
  • Step down with a half double.
  • Finish with three single crochets.

Working up the other side of the stem:

  • Make a single crochet into the next two stitches along the stem.
  • For the last eyelet, chain 6.
  • Count 5 stitches, pull through and chain 1.
  • Proceed as before with the pattern (five double crochets, a half double, and three single crochets).

Completing the first half:

  • Slip stitch into the last chain to close it off.
  • Chain 1 and single crochet all the way down the opposite side of the initial chain (should be 12 single crochets).
  • Chain 1 to turn, then proceed back the way you came, replicating exactly the pattern already completed but this time on the other side.

Final touches:

  • Pull and shape the eyelets to form the leaf clearly.
  • Weave in any ends and block your work to finish, if necessary.
