Materials Needed:

  • Acrylic or cotton yarn of your choice
  • 3 mm crochet hook

Pattern:

Heart Center:

  • Create a magic ring with an X on your fingers.
  • Chain 3 (counts as the first double crochet).
  • Make 11 more double crochets into the ring (total of 12 double crochets including the chain 3).
  • Pull the yarn tail to close the magic ring.
  • Join to the top of the beginning chain 3 with a slip stitch.

Next Round (Shaping the Heart):

  • Skip the first stitch from the hook. In the second stitch, make 8 treble crochets.
  • One double crochet in the next stitch.
  • One double crochet and one half double crochet in the following stitch.
  • Two half double crochets in the next stitch.
  • One half double crochet and one double crochet in the next stitch.

Repeat Steps for the Other Half of the Heart:

  • Chain 1.
  • Repeat steps 1-5 in reverse order to mirror the other side of the heart.
  • After the last treble crochet set, skip one stitch, then slip stitch to the first stitch of the round.

Square the Heart:

  • Attach a new color (e.g., white) at the chain-1 space from the previous round with a slip stitch.
  • Make a single crochet in the same stitch as the slip stitch.
  • Make one slip stitch in the chain-1 space and single crochet in the next stitch.
  • Work around the heart, creating the square by following the established pattern:
  • Half double crochet and single crochet in the same stitch.
  • Double crochet and treble crochet in the same stitch to form corners.
  • Chain 3 to form each corner space.
  • Ensure stitches follow the pattern in the heart to create a balanced square shape.
  • Finish the round with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.

Final Edge Round:

  • Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet).
  • Make one double crochet in each stitch around, working the corners as follows:
  • In the chain-3 corner space: 2 double crochets, chain 3, 2 double crochets.
  • Complete the round with one double crochet in each stitch and repeat the corner pattern at each corner.
  • Join the round with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain 3.
