- Straighten the chain, loop it around, and insert your hook into the first chain to form a circle.
- Yarn over and pull through to connect, creating the base circumference.
Row 1: Double Crochet
- Start with a chain of two, or use a chainless double crochet.
- For a chainless double crochet, pull up your loop, yarn over, and hold the loop.
- Insert your hook into the first chain, yarn over, and pull through (3 loops on hook).
- Yarn over, pull through the first two loops, then yarn over and pull through the remaining two.

- For a regular double crochet, yarn over, insert your hook, yarn over, and pull through.
- Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, and pull through the last two loops.
- Repeat this process, placing one double crochet in each chain around.
Row 2: Crossed Double Crochet
- Start with a chainless double crochet or a chain two.
- Skip the next stitch, and place a double crochet into the following stitch.
