Materials:
- Double knitting yarn
- 3.5mm and 3mm (or 2.5mm for a smaller hamsa) crochet hooks
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Optional bead for decoration
Instructions:
- Start with a slip knot.
- Chain 19.
- In the second chain from the hook, place 2 half double crochets.
- Half double crochet in the next 16 chains.
- In the last chain, place 5 half double crochets to turn the work and work on the other side of the chain.
- Working over the initial tail or leaving it to weave in later, work one half double crochet in the next 16 stitches.
- In the first stitch where 2 half double crochets were made, add 3 more half double crochets.
- Slip stitch to the first stitch to complete the round (this will represent the middle finger).
Starting the Next Rounds:
- Chain 1, then half double crochet into the same stitch.
- Do two half double crochets in each of the next 2 stitches.
- Half double crochet in the next 12 stitches.
Creating the Side Fingers:
- Perform two half double crochet foundation chains:
- To start, wrap yarn around the hook, insert it into the side of the previous half double crochet, pull yarn through, yarn over and pull through one loop, then yarn over and pull through all three loops.
- Turn your work and in the second foundation stitch from the hook, place 3 half double crochets.
- Half double crochet in the next 13 stitches.
- Place two half double crochets in each of the next three stitches.
- Chain one and slip stitch into the first stitch of the round.
- Repeat similar steps for the other side of the hamsa to create symmetrical fingers.
Final Round:
- Start with a chain one and single crochet into the same stitch.
- Do one single crochet into the next five stitches.
- Two single crochet in the next two stitches.
- Continue with single crochet in the specified number of stitches, distribute additional stitches for the thumb and pinky fingers.
- For the thumb, do a half double crochet, chain 3, and a slip stitch into the same stitch for the thumb's tip.
- To form the fingers, connect stitches with single crochets and slip stitches, and form the side fingers with half double crochet foundations filled with single and half double crochets as indicated.
Finishing Touches:
- After completing the crochet part, cut the yarn, leaving a long tail to create a loop for hanging.
- Weave in all loose ends.
- Attach the smaller hamsa to the larger one at the base if you are making a two-size decoration.
- Create the hanging loop at the top by knotting the yarn and weaving in the end.
- Optionally, add a bead for decoration by threading it onto a yarn tail with the tapestry needle and securing it in place.
