Materials Needed:
- Yarn of your choice
- Crochet hook suitable for your yarn
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Zipper (available at craft stores like Hobby Lobby)
- Thread and needle for sewing the zipper
Granny Square Pattern:
Start with a Magic Circle:
- Lay your yarn across your fingers, wrap it around, and pull up your working yarn through the loop.
- Chain one (this chain one does not count as a stitch).
Round 1:
- Into the magic circle, place three double crochets.
- Chain three, then place another set of three double crochets.
- Repeat the process two more times, resulting in four sets of three double crochets separated by chain-three spaces.
- Close with a slip stitch into the first double crochet.
- Pull the tail end to tighten your magic circle.
Round 2:
- Start by placing a double crochet into the very stitch you are working in.
- Add one double crochet into each of the next two stitches.
- For every corner, place two double crochets, chain three, and then two more double crochets all into the corner space.
- Repeat the pattern along each side and corner of the square.
- Close the round with a slip stitch into the first double crochet.
Continue Adding Rounds:
- For each new round, follow the pattern established in Round 2.
- With each round, the side lengths of the square will increase by four double crochets.
- Stop once you achieve the desired granny square size.
Making the Fanny Pack:
Attach the Granny Squares:
- You will need four granny squares for this project.
- Connect them by folding and sewing to create the fanny pack shape: two on the front and back, half of one on each side.
Create the Border:
- Line the top edge with single crochets, going around the top of the squares.
The Strap:
Fixed Strap:
- Start on one side of the fanny pack by inserting your hook into the edge and starting with a chain one followed by ten double crochets along the side of the granny square.
- Continue working in rows of ten double crochets until the strap reaches your desired length, then attach it to the other side of the fanny pack.
Adjustable Strap:
- Similar to the fixed strap, start with ten double crochets.
- Create a loop by chaining ten and then connecting back to the strap.
- This creates an adjustable mechanism.
- For making it adjustable, add holes in the strap by crocheting four double crochets, chaining two (skip two spaces), and then resume with double crochets.
- To make it fit, adjust the length accordingly and consider adding a button at the end for easy adjustment through the created holes.
Zipper Installation:
- Sew the zipper onto the top of the fanny pack using a thread and needle.
- You can customize the sewing technique as needed, but ensure it's secure.
