Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn (about 50 grams)
  • 5.5 mm hook
  • 8 mm hook

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • dc: double crochet
  • blo: back loop only

Instructions:

Working the Stretchy Band:

  • With the 5.5 mm hook, chain 11.

Row 1:

Work a sc in the second ch from the hook, then sc in each ch across the row. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2:

  • Work in the blo of each stitch, sc all the way across, ch 1, turn.
  • Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have 34 rows. The cuff should measure approximately 10 inches by then.

Joining the Short Ends:

Fold the cuff over and join the short ends together with slip stitches. Work a slip stitch under the chain you just made, then work a slip stitch under the next two loops. Repeat this all the way across, then work a slip stitch in the top of the first slip stitch and ch 1.

Working the Top Edge:

  • With the 5.5 mm hook, work a sc at the end of each row around the top edge of the tube. Join to the first sc with a slip stitch and ch 1, turn.
  • Preparing for the 8 mm Hook:
  • Work a slip stitch, ch 3, then work a slip stitch into the first space in each sc around. You should have 34 chain-3 spaces when you're finished.
  • Working the Texture with the 8 mm Hook:
  • Switch to the 8 mm hook and join with a slip stitch, ch 2, turn.

Row 1:

  • Work a hdc in each chain-3 space around.
  • Repeat row 1 for two more rows.

Row 4:

  • Work a dc, ch 1, skip the next stitch, work a dc in the next stitch. Repeat this all the way around.
  • Work four more rounds of the same stitch pattern.

Closing Off the Holes:

  • In the final round, work a sc in the chain space, then work a dc in the stitch below. Repeat this all the way around.
  • Join with a slip stitch and fasten off. Weave in any loose ends.
