Materials Needed:

  • 5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn of two colors
  • Hair hoop
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Cotton or any other fillings
  • Hot glue gun

Covering the Hair Hoop:

Make a slip knot with the black yarn.

  • Place the yarn like inside the hoop.
  • Crochet around the hoop with single crochet stitches until nearly reaching the other side (leave some space because part of the hoop will be inserted into the cushion later).

Creating the First Cushion (White Yarn):

Make a slip knot and chain four.

  • Slip stitch into the very first chain to create a ring.
  • Chain two.
  • Make eight double crochets inside the ring.
  • Slip stitch into the first double crochet (not the chain two).
  • Chain two.

Increasing Rounds:

  • Make two double crochet stitches into each stitch around for a total of 16 double crochets.
  • Slip stitch and chain two.
  • Next round: Make two double crochets into the first stitch, then one double crochet into the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around for a total of 24 double crochets.
  • Slip stitch and chain two.
  • Following round: Two double crochets into the first stitch, one double crochet into the next two stitches. Continue this pattern around for a total of 32 double crochets.

Slip stitch and chain two.

Non-Increasing Round:

  • Place one double crochet into each stitch around.

Decreasing Rounds:

  • Slip stitch and chain two.
  • Half double crochet two (stitches) together.
  • Make two normal half double crochets into the next two stitches.
  • Repeat the pattern around with the decreases and two half double crochet stitches.
  • Next round: Slip stitch and chain two, half double crochet two together, then half double crochet into the next stitch.
  • Repeat this pattern around.

Final Decreases and Stuffing:

  • Continue half double crochet two together all around.
  • Stuff the cushion with cotton or your chosen filling to make it soft and flat.

Finishing:

  • Use scissors and a needle to close the small opening left in the cushion.
  • Position the hair hoop to understand how deep to insert it into the cushions. Mark the depth approximately.
  • Use the hot glue gun on the edge of the hair hoop and insert it inside the cushion securing it to the glue.
  • Repeat the process for the second cushion.
  • Clean up any excess glue and trim ends if necessary.

Result:

  • The finished product should be a fluffy, soft, and warm pair of crocheted ear warmers on a hair hoop.
