Crochet Drawstring Bag
Materials and Tools:
- Yarn: One cake (225 m = 246.06 yds) of YarnArt Macrame Cotton col. 753 for the bag and a bit of rope for the drawstring (the same yarn type in solid beige is suggested).
- Crochet Hook: 4 mm
- Accessories:
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Stitch marker (optional)
Abbreviations:
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- inc: increase, refers to 2 single crochets in the same stitch
- back post sc: back post single crochet
Making Process:
Bag:
- Start With a magic loop.
- Row 1: 4 sc into the loop.
- Row 2: 4 inc (8).
- Row 3: 8 inc (16).
- Row 4: 1 sc, 1 inc all around (24).
- Row 5: 2 sc, 1 inc all around (32).
- Row 6: 3 sc, 1 inc all around (40).
- Row 7: 4 sc, 1 inc all around (48).
Follow this pattern, increasing the number of sc between each row inc. So on the 8th row, increase after every 5 sc, on the 9th after every 6 sc, and so forth. Continue increasing this way until your circle reaches about 22 cm in diameter (this should take you around Row 18, depending on your tension and yarn choices).
From here:
Row 18 (or after reaching 22 cm diameter): 1 sc in each st.
Keep crocheting to build height with the SC stitches (this should form the walls of the bag) until the bag part is about 30 cm high or until row 60.
- Row 61: Create holes for the drawstring by 9 sc, 3 ch, and skip 3.
- Work a few more rows, then finish with a row of back post single crochet for a neat edge.
Ensure the footer/edge is tidy and firm, and the drawstring section is sturdy and holds well. Once all crochet work is done, secure and cut off any loose ends.
String:
- Chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a loop.
- Work 1 sc in each stitch spirally until the string is around 140 cm long.
- Weave the string through the holes at the top of the bag and tie knots near the ends to secure.
