Materials Needed

  • 4.5 mm crochet hook
  • Yarn (your color choice)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Button

Purse Base

Foundation Chain

  • Make a slip knot and chain 25 loosely (approx. 6.5 inches / 17 cm).

Round 1

  • Single crochet in the back bump of each chain (start from 2nd chain).

Round 2

  • At the end, add 3 single crochets in the first stitch (creating 4 total at each end).
  • Use a stitch marker after the corner.
  • Single crochet along to the other side.
  • Place 2 single crochets in each of the next 4 stitches (rounding the corner).
  • Continue single crocheting to the next corner and repeat the increase.

Body

  • Remove the marker and crochet in the back loops only.
  • Continue single crocheting in the back loop around to build the body.
  • Stop when the purse measures approx. 6x6 inches (15 cm x 15 cm).

Flap

  • Mark the back center where the flap begins.
  • Chain 1 and turn.
  • Single crochet to the marked stitch, then remove the marker and finish the row.
  • Chain 1, turn, and single crochet across.

Decreasing Rows

  • Chain 1, turn, skip first stitch (decrease), then single crochet across.
  • Repeat this decrease at the start of each row until you reach your desired flap length.

Buttonhole

  • Find the flap center.

  • Place 4 single crochets in the chain space, then finish the row.

Edging

  • Chain 1, turn, skip first stitch, and single crochet to the end.
  • Crochet down the edge, placing one stitch per row.
  • Continue around the front and up the other side of the flap.
  • Join at the start with an invisible stitch.
  • Weave in all ends.

  • Leave long tail and cut yarn.
  • Close with a yarn needle.
  • Attach strap 4–5 stitches from flap edges on each side.

  • Create a magic ring.
  • Place 11 single crochets inside the ring.
  • Pull tight, join with invisible stitch (12 total).
  • Join new color:
  • Chain 3, 2 double crochets in next stitch

  • Repeat for 6 petals total.
  • Slip stitch to first petal to finish.
  • Leave long tail to sew onto purse.

Finishing Touches

  • Sew the button to the front under the flap.
