Materials Needed:

  • Acrylic yarn in two colors
  • Crochet hook size 4 or 4.5 mm
  • Scissors
  • Yarning needle

Pattern:

Starting with a Magic Circle:

  • Create a magic circle leaving a tail.
  • Insert the hook, grab the yarn through the loop, pull up a loop and chain one.

In Row 1:

Single crochet into the ring, then chain one (counts as the first stitch).

  • Work 11 double crochets into the ring.
  • Pull the tail to close the magic circle tightly.
  • Slip stitch to the first double crochet to join (not the chain one).

Row 2:

Remove the hook, insert it from behind into the top of the first double crochet of the previous row, grab the loop, pull it back for a seamless start.

  • Start with a single crochet and chain one into the first stitch.
  • Increase by working two double crochets into each stitch around.
  • Work the last increase into the slip stitch of the previous row.
  • Slip stitch to the first double crochet of this row to join (24 stitches total).

Row 3:

Repeat starting method of Row 2 to avoid a seam.

  • Work a pattern of one double crochet, then an increase repeated around the circle.
  • End with an increase in the last stitch which is the single crochet chain one with slip stitch on top.
  • Slip stitch to join at the end of the row.

Top of the Ornament:

Switch to the second color yarn with a slip knot.

  • Attach yarn two stitches to the right of the middle of the circle.
  • Chain one, then work five single crochets across for the top part.
  • Chain one, turn, work five single crochets back.
  • Repeat the above step for layering.
  • Slip stitch to the middle stitch of the top part to create a loop for hanging.
  • Chain 15 (or more for desired loop size), join with slip stitch to the starting stitch of the loop.
  • Weave in all ends.

Finishing Touches:

Cut off your yarn, thread all ends through and trim any excess to neaten up your Christmas ornament.
