Crochet Basket Weave Water Bottle Bag
Supplies Needed:
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- 4.5mm crochet hook
- Four colors of yarn (In this case, Lion Brand Lazy Days yarn in colors: Surf Spray, Clay, Legion, and Taupe)
Pattern For Base of the Bag:
Start with Taupe Color Yarn
- Create a magic ring.
- Chain 2 (this does not count as a stitch).
- Into the magic ring, make 12 double crochets.
- Pull the tail of the magic ring to close.
- Slip stitch into the first double crochet to join. This completes row 1.
Row 2:
- Chain 2.
- Make 2 double crochets in the same stitch and in each stitch around, ending with 24 double crochets.
- Slip stitch into the first double crochet to join.
Row 3:
- Chain 2.
- 2 double crochets in the first stitch, 1 double crochet in the next stitch, repeat around, ending with 36 double crochets.
- Slip stitch to join.
Sizing Check:
- Place the circle base under the water bottle to ensure it covers the bottom. If needed, continue increasing by adding a row of 2 double crochets in the first stitch and then 1 double crochet in the next two stitches for the entire row. Repeat this increase pattern for subsequent rows as required by adding one more stitch between increase stitches until the base fits.
Body of the Bag:
Switch to Surf Spray Color Yarn:
- Attach new yarn color.
- Chain 4.
- Skip 3 stitches, in the 4th stitch commence a series of double treble crochets: Double treble crochet in the next 3 stitches, working behind the row into the 3 stitches you skipped, double treble crochet in each of those 3 skipped stitches. Repeat this pattern around.
- Slip stitch into the top of the first double treble crochet to join.
Successive Rows:
- Continue the pattern, alternating the positions from front to behind and vice versa for each new color or row you start, keeping in mind the number of stitches to skip based on the instructions. The pattern creates a textured effect for the body of the bag.
Strap:
- Create an i-cord using all four strands of yarn.
- Create a slip knot.
- Use a larger hook if available, like a 6mm, for ease.
- Wrap the yarn from front to back around the hook, then yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook.
- Continue until the i-cord reaches desired length for the strap.
- Attach the i-cord to the bag, ensuring it's weaved through appropriately and securely tied.
Finishing Touches:
- Weave in all loose ends.
- Adjust the strap length as per requirement.
