Crochet Baby Socks Free Pattern Newborns You Can Make In One Evening

These easy crochet baby socks are a must-make for every crocheter who loves creating tiny, adorable projects. Designed by Craft & Crochet, this pattern uses soft double knitting yarn and a beautiful mix of V-stitch and front post double crochet for a snug yet stretchy texture.

Crochet Baby Socks

Perfect for 6–9 months (with size adjustments available for newborns to 12 months), the socks work up quickly and look charming in any color. Add a delicate ribbon bow to finish, and you have the perfect handmade gift for baby showers or winter keepsakes.

Materials

  • Double knitting yarn
  • Crochet hook (3.5mm for 6–9 months; other sizes vary)
  • Yarn needle
  • Elastic thread or fine elastic
  • Scissors

Toe and Initial Foot Rounds

  • Round 1: Make a Magic Ring. Chain 3 (counts as 1st DC).
  • Work 15 DC into the ring, pull tight, and slip stitch to join. (15 DC)
  • Round 2: Chain 3. Work 2 DC in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (30 DC)
  • Round 3: Chain 3. Work 1 DC in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (30 DC)

Crochet Baby Socks 2

Pattern Rounds (2 DC V-stitch)

  • Round 4: Chain 3.
  • Skip 2 DC, into 3rd DC make V-stitch (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC).
  • Skip 2 DC, 1 DC in next stitch.
  • Repeat around, finish with Front Post SC around start chain. (5 V-stitches)
  • Rounds 5–6: Chain 2. In ch-2 space, make V-stitch (2 DC, ch 2, 2 DC).
  • FPDC around next DC.
  • Repeat sequence and finish with Front Post SC.
  • Repeat this pattern for the next round as well.

Heel Construction

  • Row 1: Chain 2, turn.
  • DC in next 15 stitches. (16 DC)
  • Row 2: Chain 2, turn.
  • DC2TOG across. (8 sets)
  • Row 3: Chain 2, turn. DC4TOG across first 4 sets, DC4TOG across next 4 sets, slip stitch in center to close.

Crochet Baby Socks 3

Post-Heel and Shaping

  • Round 8: Chain 2, turn.
  • Continue V-stitch pattern around open edge, placing first and last V-stitch into second heel row.
  • Join with Front Post SC.
  • Rounds 9–11: Repeat 2 DC V-stitch and FPDC pattern for 5 total rounds after heel.
  • Round 12: Chain 2.
  • In next ch-2 space, work 3 DC, ch 2, 3 DC.
  • FPDC around FPDC. Repeat pattern and finish with Front Post SC.
  • Rounds 13–16: Repeat 3 DC V-stitch pattern for a total of 5 rounds after heel.

Crochet Baby Socks 4

Final Rounds

  • Round 17: Chain 3. Work 1 DC in each stitch and 2 DC in each ch-2 space around.
  • Slip stitch to join. (45 DC)
  • Round 18: Insert elastic ring into cuff.
  • Chain 1, then work 1 SC in each stitch around over the elastic.
  • Slip stitch to join and fasten off.
