This easy-to-follow pattern starts from the toe and works upward, allowing you to adjust the length to match your shoe size. Materials

  • Medium weight yarn (size 4)
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Scrap yarn or stitch marker

The Toe (Increase Rounds)

  • Make a loose knot or magic ring.
  • R1: Ch 1, make 10 HDC into the center. Pull tight, sl st to first HDC. (10 HDC)
  • R2: Ch 1. Repeat (1 HDC, 2 HDC in next st) around. Sl st to first HDC. (15 HDC)
  • R3: Ch 1. Repeat (2 HDC, 2 HDC in next st) around. Sl st to first HDC. (20 HDC)
  • R4: Ch 1. Repeat (3 HDC, 2 HDC in next st) around. Do not join. (25 HDC)

The Foot (Working in a Spiral)

  • Place a scrap yarn marker.
  • R5: Make 1 SC in the first stitch, then 1 HDC in every stitch around. (25 HDC)
  • R6–R14: Continue making 1 HDC in each stitch around, moving the marker up at the start of each round. (25 HDC)

The Heel

  • End R14 two stitches before the marker. Make 1 SC in next st, then sl st into final st.
  • Row 1: Ch 1, TURN. Make 12 HDC across first 12 stitches.
  • Row 2–4: Ch 1, TURN. Make 12 HDC across each row. (4 rows total)
  • Fold heel flap in half. SC both sides together (about 5–6 SCs) to close the heel.

The Ankle and Cuff

  • Ch 1, TURN. Sl st up the side of the heel flap to reach the opening.
  • Push heel out so sock is right-side out.
  • Ch 1. Make 25 HDC evenly around opening (4 up side, across front, 4 down other side).
  • Continue working in a spiral: make 1 SC in first st and place marker.
  • Make 1 HDC in each stitch around for 14 rounds or until desired ankle length.

Ribbing Cuff

  • End spiral two stitches before marker. Make 1 SC, then sl st into final st.

For 3 ribbing rounds:

  • Ch 1, alternate 1 Front Post HDC (FPHDC) and 1 Back Post HDC (BPHDC) around.
  • Sl st to first FPHDC to join each round.

Finishing

  • Sl st to join, Ch 1 to secure, cut yarn, and weave in all ends.
